Default FAO: Focus ST owners

Serious discussion:

Are you disappointed with your ST?
I mean, did you buy it in the hope it would bring some sort of excitement to your driving life but once owning it for a week or so felt really let down & disappointed with it in any way at all? ie, performance, handling, comfort, style etc etc or were you more than happy with it & after owning it for a while still happy with it?

I'll again add that this is a serious discussion & not just a dig at Simon cuntybollocks

I heard they can be disappointing, but have never driven one i cannot comment. Dotn they have 'cooler issues in the summer and are slower?

think they were only getting 7-8 secs 0-60 at ford fair?!

I've driven one, and was quite impressed for a FWD car, and the launch control is fun.

AJ, my mate who had the red Evo 8 (when Pete got ASBO'd )has had a few (Ford dealer) and really likes them - but he drives them like his evo, by the scruff of its neck, lol.

Happy with mine , big boot gets the weekly shopping in easy

No point going for mental BHP in ANY fwd car, but i've had Dreamscience on mine for a couple of months and its transformed the power delivery very nicely

Oompa Loompa,

I like my car. Its been 100% reliable and a joy to drive a turbo car
that doesnt have lag or big fuel consumption.

Very tunable and for fast road, it can hold its own against most in standard form.

Its no cossie in terms of performance .

I would recomend it

I test drove one and was disappointed. I will say it did feel very useable as an everyday performance car and is quick, but didn't feel like it had a punch, the boost was too gradual, didn't get much of a chance to throw it around bends on the test drive though

I hate to swear I'd buy the Megane renault sport turbo instead

Some mixed views so far.

The reason I ask is because I test drove a Focus RS & was extremely disappointed & was wondering how the ST compared in terms of performance etc?

AJ, if you're down my neck of the woods, pop in for a test drive - he'll show you what the car can really do, and then let you have a drive.

A manufacturer cannot invalidate a warranty without 100% proof the modification caused the failure.

I've never driven a FRS but heard an opinion that the FRS was better from a torque feel point of view, how true I can't comment

I drive my moms all the time, Its awesome, sounds lovely, goes well, cruises nicely and is great fun throught the twistys.
Tbh, it feels more bmw like than a ford but thats not a bad thing is it.
I also drove Kennys at MSD the other week and he re-mapped his and its truely stunning.

Steve

P.s, when she first had it, It felt a little sluggish and tame but with a few miles on when it got past around 8-9k it started to free up and felt a lot better, Also started doing more mpg too.

I realy like my one very smooth and handles very well,
The stock mapped car is crap and doesnt very very well at all in comparison to a correctly mapped one,
Mine is currently 280hp this is about as far as I would recomend due to wheel spin and would recomend a LSD before the next power increase.

as above, the std car is very considered in the way it puts the power down - if you've driven one you'll know what i mean,

a simple remap like the dreamscience really transforms the car, its makesd the sort of difference going from a stg 1 to a stg3 cossie in terms of the difference.... see graph below, that is for a 100% mechanically std car, its the torque thats the impressive bit, really is

the dotted lines are the std factory map v the dreamscience race plus map, and the beauty of it is, you dont need any tools or to even open the bonet to do it, and when u return it to stock (u can do this as many times as u like) it shows NO trace to ford if its in for a service or other work

Have my ST for a few months now and i'm fairly happy with it. Can be a guzzler on the juice but its a turbo car what would you expect If you compare new cars in the same range as an ST (gti's, megane, vxr, seat cupra, civic type r) in my opinion it seems the better car. Before i bought it i looked at most of the cars in its range. Didn't like the vxr because its got scary amounts of torque steer. Wouldn't trust the megane or the seat with reliability and dont like the look of the type r. Was a tough choice between the st and the golf gti but im happy with my choice

Pisses me off when people say the ST is heavy on fuel.

Its a heavy car with a 2.5 petrol turbo performance engine. What do you expect

Civic Type R.... All that lag and no turbo

I test drove one a while ago and to be honest i was disappointed. yes it drives well, handles well, exceptionally refined on the road but to be fair any 04 shape focus you will not be disappointed by in this way as it's streets ahead the old shape focus.

it's a very quick car don't get me wrong, and yeah it's probably the best in the hot hatch field at the time, and still is, but it just wasn't the mind blowing performance car i expected by the hype.

I've also driven the RS, and on the other hand is everything the ST isn't, harsh, raw and too difficult to live with everyday imho.

if it was my money and had to chose between the 2 it'd be the rs, but ultimatly the 2.0 tdci focus titanium chipped would be my choice.

Swapped my 300bhp Escort cosworth for my St , best choice i've ever made, the focus has 370ilbs foot of torque and almost no lag. if not driven hard I get 310miles to 45quids worth of fuel. Very happy with it

I had one and was disappointed. I've also had the FRS which is MUCH better. The ST is just lacking somehow. It's a nice car with lots of toys, looks pretty good, goes OKish and handles OKish.

All in all a bit of a letdown. Putting it simply...it's no RS.

aj i went to bedford to drive one on a day out at work, was proper fun then

drove a few at work,,,, hate the interior, to big and bulky,,,,, also feels like a base model S40 unless its a st3 then its a leather S40 with no winter pack and crappy indicator stalk ( focus ones are so shite compared to the volvo version)

oh and you wont find a booster seat to match the trim mate

they dont do yellow either mate,,, but theres orange ( ginger )

buy a suzuki cappichino thing and look like bowser of super mario cart with the roof down
