im round one of my work collegues houses now. the car has a blown head gasket on his rover 100, a compression test gave us the results. also loads of mayonaise type gunk in the header tank.

rover 100 1.4 8 valve

how much would be looking at with all the parts and labour to fix this problem? headgasket, manifold gasket is blown, inlet gasket, new cambelt, water pump, radiator is blown and new oil etc...........

its a £500 car so is it worth it?

No its not worth it mate IMO, those engines can be a right nightmare and i wouldn't get involved.

Thats my opinion anyway

If you can't diy it be best off scrapping I reckon
May as well have a crack at it in that case with the Haynes manual?

just rip it appart and replace what need's doing.
Other than that it's not worth getting a garage to do it

fuck it....sell it for spares or repairs and get a car that won't do the HG every 5k!!
