keep hearing about the things, and am considering buying one
but rather than spend hours hunched over the comp
which
site is the best or where can i find out more about them.
the one i have seen is a GTR V-SPEC 1996
whats the differance between just a gtr and a v spec gtr??
anyone had one

Check out the GTR Register for info
http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/upload/
I have had 3 GTRs and can tell you for a fact that they piss all over Cosworths on performance, handling and tuneability but they are not a cheap car to run.
I had the same blinkered view as those expressed above till I drove one and after 7 Cosworths woke up and realised the GTR was the natural upgrade.

LOL at the people like Ant etc slagging them with no experience of fuck all
I really dont like Skylines much anymore, im fed up with em, but in pure performance terms, they pretty much piss on pretty much anything Ford have to offer.
Filter/Exhaust/15psi is enough to get an R32GTR in to the 11s if you can drive.
They handle mint, not like a normal 4wd, more like a grippy RWD, tail happy, no understeer at all, fun, but not as "safe" as normal 4wds, unless you buy a 150quid torque split controller, then you can just turn the 4wd up a bit, then its a bit less tail happy.
this is a good (and old, and quiet) video showing the 2 sides to a R32GTR, and this is 2 fairly standard cars, one being dicked about for fun, and one just driving fast.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQLAL0yjo5U
All GTRs have that? Thats just the 4wd system. Tho V-Specs have a slightly faster version, as if youd notice.
If your modifying one V-Spec or not wont make much odds IMO.

GTR's are soooo much better than Cossies its not even funny.
They make Cossies feel like out dated tractors and are phenominal value for money.
a Ł6k R32 GTR makes a Escos at double the price feel like a very very old and shonky piece of shit!
Take off the Ford blinkers!!!

Harsh, why say that, ? both equally tunable, gtst far far less weight than GTR, bar that all very similar, GTST about 2/3rds the cost.!
RB25 or RB26, both very similarly tunable.. so possibly a harsh awnser.!

R34 GTR's 25-50k
I looked into getting an R34, but after driving an evo for a couple of year's i realised i'd need a pretty decent power 1 to be an upgrade. 400bhp+ due to there weight.
Then to warrent the extra 20k, i figured i might as well go all out 600bhp.
Then you look at the costs involved to own such a car and i bought another Evo.
I love skylines, but only R34 GTR's.
It would be like me buying an Evo 4 when i really want a 6 if i bought any other. But for now, the R34 IMO isn't worth the money it demands. (although economically it must be

mgstu.
Because what you say isnt that true really is it. They share almost no parts, they arnt remotely similar. They about as similar as a XR4i to a 4x4 Saff Cossie.
If you want a RWD car there are lot better cars to get than a GTST IMO.
They more expensive, heavier, dont look, or handle as well as a S14a 200SX, and if we just talking the usual standard turbo bolt on mods, get less performance for your money too.
And then you got things like Supras and RX7s which TBH i rate (as long as you dont 100% have to have 4wd) better than GTRs.
Not that much lighter than GTRs, about 150kg or so, still heavy cars barring 32GTSTs.
They arnt equally tuneable at all, not at the level most people modify cars, ie stock turbos, more boost, filter, exhaust.
GTRs end up with close to 400bhp or so, GTSTs are a good 100bhp+ down on that at the same level.
Even on the mid level of 500bhp or so there are a LOT less bits that need changing (or in fact, fuck all barring bigger turbos and better fueling. you can use stock GTR manifolds, stock GTR internals, stock GTR intercooler) for that power on a GTR compared to a GTST.
At the ultimate level of tuning when everythnigs changed, there fuck all in it tho really, as a base an RB25 is a good engine still, almost as good as a RB26. The bits bolted on it arnt tho.

But, for what i use a car for, country lane blast's etc a 2/3rds the cost 500bhp evo is more realistic.

i drove a skyline dont know which model it was twin turbo 330 bhp and did drive very nice felt wicked on the road but wouldnt live a 330 hp sapp grunt for grunt absolutely not. skyline was rwd aswell. the only thing that puts me off is 500 kgs heavier and expensive to repair and you need more power to be quicker although a bigger and better engine to start with so i suppose to juning is easier. but theres no disputing there a better driving and handling car.
anyone know what model the 2.5 twin turbo rwd skylines were ?

Be carefull when buying r33GTR's i bought one from a car dealer and later found it was a stolen import and i lost Ł1000's. The police who dealt with my case said there are 53 M plates in this country that are ringers, how he knows that i dont no but beware, it certainly gave me the worst year of my life

32GTSTs were 2litre single turbo, 33GTSTs were 2.5 single turbo, and 34GTTs were 2.5 single turbo.

GTS is non turbo.
no RWDs came twin turbo, and you cant even bolt the GTR twin turbos to a GTS-T without a load of work as the bolt spacing on the heads are different.

stavros
i ment 300 kgs
there 1550 kgs saphs are 1250
must of got it wrong on 2 turbos then deffo 2.5 and rwd though.
power to weight say 480 hp saph 384 per ton
600 hp skyline 387 per ton
i asked stu at msd about skylines and he said i would need around 600 hp in a skyline to be as quick as my saph when there both on song grunt for grunt.
a big single turbo rwd skyline would definateley be my second choice of car after a rwd cossie.
