I think you should tell her to mind her own.
Its your car, your sacrifice, what is she giving up for you to go and pay more each month on another mortgage?

I think your missing the point that he is being FORCED to sell his old saff, which in all honesty he will probably have more love for than he ever would a Porsche.
If he chose to sell it then fair enough, but it doesnt seem like there is a compramise here.

yeah you're right, he really sounds like he wants to sell the cossie. Granted the Porsche will be a better car but he wants to keep the cossie by the sound of it.

I agree with both sides!

Rach (wife) is the voice of simple reason.

But when has owning a cossie had anything to do with that! LOL

I dont hate her. As stated, it does involve me getting a 996, so sympathy only, not pity! LOL

Were it up to me, I would keep it, and simply borrow a little more money, chap!

Even so, you are correct - she is merely the voice of reason!

You are of course correct, but the problem I have is that I will inevitably have to sell the Porsche to make way for kids in the future, and at that point, I will miss my cossie which owes me very little. This is my argument.

Your missus wants you to sell a saff and buy a 996 Turbo, and you're complaining?

ROFOL - I had thought about selling the boat, but I figured that having no boat and living on the South Coast of Devon would be just unbearable!

Rich

I like the GT3, but to be honest most of the time it will spend on the road, and not the track. And I genuinely believe that as a road car, the Turbo is the quicker (where speed, more compliant suspension and 4x4 is more important over all)

That and the fact that the GT3 in reasonable condition and age is slightly more expensive.

My cossie would be gone in a second if i could afford a 996 turbo or GT3.

JJ kids will fit in the back of the 996 easy, they come with built in baby seats lol. When they get to old to fit they will be able to ride a bike so problem solved.

I think it will be the cost of the car rather than the room, but I agree - loads of room in the back for kiddywinks! Mind you - would you trust your kids in the back?

Basically it depends on what you are prepared to take on.

My minimum requirements were as follows;

1. Must have OPC Full Service History
2. Must be late 2001 minimum (pref 2002)
3. Must be 45k maximum miles
4. Must be Manual not Tip
5. Sat Nav desirable
6. Must have an OPC Warranty that may be renewed.

Based on the above, a budget of £45k seemed to be about right. You can get them for less if you compromise on one or more of the above, and you can pay a whole lot more!

There is a lot of deviation in peoples opinions of the value of their cars in this market, though the above seems to be right.

As far as the GT3s are concerned, to get the above, you need to be spending closer to 50k

Can't argue with that - but it does go very very well! In the right hands (ie not mine!) It has done a 7:56 full lap of the nurburgring!

That cannot be sniffed at!

I agree, so long as I dont have to immediately sell it for pissing kids, and end up with nothing more than a people carrier and misery!

At least I have showed willing, and posted the for sale ad though!

the only downside that i can see is if it goes wrong, too much money to fix them.

especially if you are going to track it now and again.

i was actually after a GT2 when i got the chance of the turbo...i knew the car and it was a propper thing so i bought it ....cant justify the GT2 really as i only did 800 miles in my turbo in 9 months and it ended up annoying me taking up space in the workshop

as i said must resist

You are probably right! Save up for the 997 GT2! That is an awesome car!

Actually faster than the Carrera GT in a straight line drag IIRC!
