Hi all

I need some advice, the radiator in my front room appears to be blocked, the pipes going into it are hot, yet through the middle of the radiator it is cold, as if no water is getting through.

The pipe for the water exiting it are cold, so puting 2 and 2 together i've realised its blocked.

I've tried bleeding it, no air is escaping, there fore am i right in thinking that theres no air lock inside it.

All the other radiators in my house are fine, just the one in my living room.

My question is, is there a way to take it off and flush it out, if so, is it an easy DIY thing to do, or is it a job for a pro.

Any help is much appreciated, and will stop the missus from moaning that its cold.

yes its open, theres heat in part of the radiator, but not in others.

i've wound the control round to the hottest setting (no5) and is still the same.

ok, try this

Go and turn all the other rads off in the house, this will push the heat through the rad that is still open

Otherwise, it is easy enough to take off as long as both the valves each side turn off, but if you have a TRV fitted you will need the cap that came with it to shut that side off totally.

thanks tiff, done that now, will leave it for a while for the water to push through and check on it later.

If you find this works, close down the balance valves on the other rads a touch.

well the top of the radiator is definately warmer, but work your way down and it gets colder, untill at the bottom where its stone cold,

so i can only guess that there is a blockage somewhere preventing the water to circulate and fill the entire radiator.

only way i can describe it is if you draw a semi circle going from bottom left, and finishing bottom right, everything above is warm, yet insdie my"imaginary" circle is cold, not very imformative i know, but i'm stumped.

I have noticed though that i can turn water off from both sides of radiator, so removing and flushing might not be a problem, i presume i can use a garden hose or something to blow it through.

My only query is though, if i'm right, a heating system is a constant flow of the same water, so, if i replace the newly flushed rad will i effectively lose some of the water from that flow, if u get what i mean,

Right then....

Remove the rad....then get a bucket next to each valve in turn and draw some water out till it is hot....this will pull the blockage out the pipework.

Then refit the rad and vent as usual.

If you have a combi boiler you will have to refill the system back upto 1 bar of pressure
