Yes honestly...

Its the 1st time I've had a fast mini out at coombe and without any setup of suspension or tracking or brakes it handled like a pig.

Whats a good time Lee?

I want to be going around in 1.13 or faster next time out there... BUT combe is a power circuit I realise. but still bearing in mind that your mini doesn't weigh alot and is turbo'd I would expect it to be alot faster than 1.32. Sorry.

get some slicks and get it set up matey, should go alot faster

brakes are always a good thing as well

oh it can defiantly be alot faster...

I COULDN'T take a corner fast or brake in anything other than a st8 line or the back end came round so so fast I couldn't catch it!

The problem is I have std rear suspension but the rear of the car is massivly lighter than std!!

Also bear in mind its only 120bhp & 150lbft pulling about 550kgs!!

don't worry about times until the car is sorted

Alex...

I think your time is pretty good IMO Just to give you some ideas, last time i saw some good cars at Combe (think it may have been Jap Fest last yr)... Martin Hadland was doing 1min 16's, Mark Shead was doing 1min 18/19's in his EVO, most of the other EVOs i think were doing around the 1min 24/25 mark. Martins was the quickest car on track that day (note - this was some time ago, so my memory of the times may not be 100% accurate)

My RST has done somewhere around 1min 28, my standard R5 GTT did 1min 38 5 laps in a row til the head gasket blew

So i'd say 1min 32 is pretty ok given the current state of your car etc - nice one!

P.S.... foookin 1min 13 is gonna be mentally fast Porkie

Yes, easy... to be honest, I will be GUTTED with a 1.13. I've done loads on 1.15's on busy days with only 400bhp and the rest of the car was ALOT lower spec than it is now.

When the car is running 600bhp+ and on perfect tyres with the suspension set up right on an empty track its going to be FRIGHTENGLY fast

Afraid not mate... 1.16/1.17's all day, SLOWER than me BUT to be fair to Bruce he had a slight misfire and I was on much better tyres.(but he did have over 100bhp more and a 6speed dogbox!!!)

BUT having driven Bruces car... it was a miracle he went around that fast It was not an easy or forgiving car to drive! GOD KNOWS how fast he could go in mine

Just to put things into perspective, the Caterham race cars with K series engines (i.e. light cars and not more than 240 BHP) lap Coombe in 1.02 - 1.04

Ooops,

Just spoke to Keith, his best Castle Combe time was a 1.09 in the Superlight - BTW they are only 210 BHP!!!!

He said with a good tow a front running car might see a 1.08 lap......still impressive!

That more like it!!! still sounds VERY fast for a Caterham though bearing in mind the aerodynamics of them!

When did he do those times? is that before the circuit was altered?

I am VERY impressed if thats what they do now!

lap record by a full race 1300 mini miglia is

CASTLE COMBE 1.85 Ian Curley

1:18.14 85.23 21/5/00

So I'm not a million miles off

What does the Metro do it in Lee?
