Default custom plenum (fitted to car pictures)

i made this plenum for my s2 after work last night i was just wondering if it has any obvious restrictions or if it would work properly on the car?mainly the shape of the trumpets and angle of the airflow, the overall volume is bigger than standard just wondering if anyone has had any flow problems with this shape/style?

cheers

Id say you have a lovely weld there mate....

what thickness ally have you used ??

The only thing id slightly comment on is the inlet trumpets should be flush to the lower lip on the enterance from the throttle body.

These could also do with being slightly more rounded as to aid the airs flow.

Im well impressed with the look of the plenum though

i cut the throttle body mount from an old plenum thats why its a bit dirty, this helps strengthen the shape it has a 3mm base plate with 3mm ends and a rolled 2mm outer, the trumpets are 1 3/4" pipe welded to the base plate then the lip ground then rewelded inside to make it as smooth as possible, i do see what you mean about the throttle body lip needing to be inline with the trumpets though will this affect performance even if it is forced induction?

i have to put on a couple of vacuum pickups and sensor bosses, does anyone know if the cold start can be left off? does it get used during normal running or is it best just to put it on anyway?

All dependant on what power you want to run really it just means the air flowing in to the plenum will not flow/be utilised as well as it could..

Please dont take my words as criticism mate - i think you have made something that looks stunning .. To maximise your skills etc, the plenum cover as such, should be stretched up slighty to allow the trumpets to sit level with the inlet enterance.

This will basically allow all air going in to the plenum access to the inlet tracts thus maximising the plenum and giving you the oppertunity to squezze more power /torque from the engine if other parts will also allow.

What power are you intending to run.

well it will be running at about 200bhp i didnt really do it for the power just wanted something a bit different, as long as it works and dosent restrict the power i have thats fine, it didnt take that long either so if i do want to increase the power i will at least have the design to improve it with the things you have said
cheers

if i could offer any advice,it would be to never make the vaccum hoses come from the bottom of the plenum...you always get a trace of oil in the bottom and it ends up in the hose. even an inch from bottom is fine.......remote mount looks cooler lmo, like the r+b one..

top work mate

Nicely made but poorly designed. You will have unequal header flow, but in reality on a lowish power car running safe AFR's it probably won't cause much issue.

Also regards construction the mateial is WAY to thin. Although boost levels do dictate to some degree the maximum thickness required, all plenums are continually "panting" due to the constant vacuum/boost scenario every time you open and close the throttle. As such you need to use a minimum 5mm wall thickness.

Hope that helps.

what design would make it better?is it to do with the trumpet size/flow angle?as i said i dont know much about the workings of it as i know you do, have you got any examples/pictures of a better design?
cheers

took some pictures of it on the car, obviously the throttle body needs turning and lots of things moved to fit it all, the bay is messy and dirty at the moment, the rocker cover needs painting but it gives a rough idea of what it will look like

How do you know the thickness of the metal? He's not said? or have I missed it
