10K+ Poster!!
All good news as far as I can see!
And to prove the point-
I moaned a while ago about this site and hence I didn't renew my gold membership....
now there is real change for the better.
So I'm a gold member again

I agree with all the changes apart from one, that being the joining of Photos and Videos with the Photoshopping.
Instead of being pictures I can see it being a page full of "can you make me a sig" type threads.
The other annoying thing (personally) is the amount of sticky threads as soon as you open the new page.
Tim.

Two things...
1) Stu, are you back at the helm?
2) regarding the search, another forum I used was having problems with their search function (vBulletin forum) They implemented a "Sphinx" search function which completely cured the problem. All vBulletin are sitting on an SQL database, and it seems the problem, at least in this case, was that when someone hits the search button and submits a search (either to view their posts, or search via keyword), the SQL database was getting locked up, making it slow as fuck for EVERY user currently online. This forum is about the same size as that one. After implenting the Sphinx Search plugin or whatever it is, the problem is completely cured and the site is flying... Might be worth looking into?

I totally agree with the changes you have carried out Stu. I thought you had stepped down as Admin though!
My gripe was and still is the Critical error situation as you know as we have discussed this previously. If the changes like making the muppet room gold member only sort out these issues then my support will be reinstated.
Almost 12 months the critical errors have been happening and the first real changes we all see on PF is the moving of posts. I think this is the reason for the upset in the camp so to speak. I for one thought it was damn right rediculous to do this when the errors werent sorted out, BUT if the changes are to address the errors and slow downs then thats all fantastic but this should have been mentioned to all beforehand so everyone knew what was happening. A lot less dummies would have been spat out then i reckon.

I am here to help as Petrucci has far bigger problems at the moment.
He is helping where he can but PF is not his priority and we cant just leave the mods too it. The mods, incidentally, have done a bloody great job since PET and I havent been here for neigh on 3 months.

As a thought, by making the Muppet Room, Gold Member only, won't that flush more of them into the General Discussion room and subsequently create more work for the mods moving the posts back to different rooms or the muppet room?

Gives the topic chance to get answered quickly by ANYONE with the info (not just browsers of a particular forum), then moved to the correct forum for archive and further discussion.
Seems to be that GD is a sort-of "my latest news" forum: such as StickerPauls Ireland Rally thread. Great pics & background story and probably wouldn't get the big exposure it warrants if it went straight to the Pics Forum. Best of both worlds. Catch the people who visit GD and the people who visit Pics.
Problem comes then that you (the PF member) might miss something if it's moved on quickly. Not everyone has access everyday and may miss out. Perhaps move on topics after 24hrs if no-one is replying/ not a 'hot topic' of discussion still? A little bit more work to control but if it keeps getting bumped to the top then leave it until it drops a page or 2 or hasn't been replied on for 24hrs for example.
I don't use the "view posts since last visit" as there's generally loads of waffle that doesn't concern/ interest me or for me to have anything viable to reply with.
Are you leaving "moved" shadow topics so people can find where threads have moved to..or is that a temporary thing to try to get people posting in the right rooms?
If you don't leave a shadow topic then I fear GD will end up with "where's this thread gone?" if it isn't ideally moved where someone thinks it should as they are thinking differently to the mod who moved it.
Keep up the work Stu (and others) and if there's anything I can do to help (apart from keep posting in the correct forums) let me know.

I know there's the "new posts" icon but as you say - 250+per day in GD - is a lot to trawl through if you only get on at weekends (for example).
That's why I suggested a hot topic move date of 24hrs+ or after it's gone quiet.
I realise you have to draw a line somewhere but feel there has to be a bit of give for some threads that are busy still before being moved.

I know Stu: but (and bearing in mind before now I last posted around 3pm, so that's 8hrs roughly) I clicked that and got 7 pages worth of 271 topics in all forums !
Imagine if you hadn't been on for a few days....
That would take a while to trawl through.
