Ive used Solaris before, but not for a while its a dying product to be honest as evident by Sun now making it an OpenSource product.
They are simply not selling enough to justify paying a development team so are getting the open source community to contribute to it.
The very fact that Sun are now heavily supporting Linux supports this also.

I have a old Sun SPARC box myself which was thrown out by work and im going to throw opensolaris on it when i get time just for a nose

Yea they are the company which made Java however prior to that they had a massive market in the server operating systems with Solaris which is a systemV Unix. Sun had massive market place on the SPARC architecture however as x86 and x86 64 architecture gets more powerful many traditional unix environments are now becoming Linux systems

It's a pretty good system in all reality but has lost market place to Linux and FreeBSD

I'm certified on Solaris 7 and 8, never got round to 10, although we do use it.

Certified on Red Hat too

We dont have many Sun boxes though, most of them are Primepower, but they still use Sparc CPU's

i was'nt saying Solaris is not good or not leading edge only that a lot of the traditional unix environments which Solaris competed for have now become Linux based environments
