This is all thats in my local paper....

AROUND 30 people have voluntarily left their homes in Aldeburgh today following a breach of the sea defences there.

Police received reports shortly after 10.05am that the river Alde had breached.

Police and other emergency personal contacted people likely to be affected to recommend they leave their properties.

Most people affected have left their homes. However water is still rising in the area and emergency services are urging people in Aldeburgh who believe they may be adversely affected to find shelter with friends or family or to go the designated rest centre at the Leiston Leisure Centre.

And where I am.........

IPSWICH Borough Council has stood down its emergency teams after the threat of flooding from the river receded.

The highest water levels hit the town around 11.45am, but were lower than earlier predictions and the flood defences stood firm.

A spokesman said: "We are relieved that the predicted higher surge levels did not materialise but we could not afford to take any chances. We were ready for an emergency and have learned valuable lessons from what has been a 'real' training exercise.

"However, we want to reassure people that we will be watching for future tide levels

Being local to the area, I think the authorities handled the situation very well, visited 7500 homes during the evening apparently, warning people of the risk (and there was a big, big risk by the sounds of it).

Schools were closed to use as emergency shelters if need be, extra firefighters and police were all available and the vulnerable people in the highest risk areas were evacuated. It was all done without fuss and panic, I was very impressed.

But, luckily, we all got off light, the sea defences held, water wasn't quite as high as they feared it might have been, so a potential nightmare was avoided, by literally centimetres apparently

Only inconvenience in Norfolk was that you couldn't drive into Gt Yarmouth, from any direction, but that's no great loss

I did go for a drive last night with me mate and found a boat, a shed and a static caravan all in a neat line on the edge of the road in Walcott on the Norfolk coast
