Default LPG vehicle owners/drivers............

Just wondering how you have found reliability with LPG. Have you had any problems with the LPG system or any problems caused by the use of LPG?

Im also interested in how miles miles you get to the tank (and of course what size tank you have)?

What about servicing? How often, how much, what they have to do etc etc?

Can you tell any difference in performance between LPG and petrol?

Cheers.

My ford explorer is on gas, my dad had it converted 5 years ago and in that time hes only need a sensor. i have 2 tanks underneath about 80 litres and to fill at morrisons (46.9 a litre) it costs me £32, on average i can get 250miles but my old man has seen 275miles to a tank.

Hope this helps

LPG systems NEED servicing, the faults I tend to see are caused by long overdue services.

Injectors on multipoint kits do not like dirt, some can be cleaned but usually once they fail they are fooked.

Regulators again can get a large build up of dirt and oils which with some units can cause them to overpressure etc..

Like your petrol or diesel engine they just need a bit of looking after, I've done 50k on LPG and had no problems whatsoever, sticking to service intervals and getting the calibration reset is all I've had to do.

as jb says the lpg needs servicing, many vauxhalls with the factory
lpg fcuk up because they needed a service, then that takes out the
injectors, then the thing gets a nice big bill and makes a mockery of
buying it to save dosh,or as i see them, they sit at auction hoping no one
knows the lpg is w@nk and buys it, i see loads that dont run on the lpg
but great on the unleaded

Yep the Milbrook Vauxhall conversions do have their faults it is mainly due to the dealerships not servicing them as they should be or customers not being correctly informed of a servicing shedule when they purchased the car new.

Vauxhall dealerships do take the utter piss out of their lpg customers, we can supply and fit anything for the vauxhall range as I've done a few courses there now. A local dealership quoted one of our customers £800 ! for 4 injectors, not fitted either Whats worse is they know less about lpg than I did before I even started doing it

The vehicles to watch out for are the liquid injection lpg Fords, mainly converted by Tickford iirc, they run a intank pump which alone is worth scrapping the LPG kit over if it fails.

What it IS is a great big cylinder like we have at work !

Thus fucking cheap

I don't pay anymore than you do Tiff.

50,000 miles at less than 30p is some saving

ahhh the old tickford jobbie as fitted to many a transit, all repeat all
the ones i saw or bought were complete crap.
i rang tickford but they were bought out by prodrive, i had a buyer for
the van {gasman } and the lpg was broke.
took the van to prodrive/ford in Coventry and got it fixed at a cost
which made me eyes water
even the company what owned it said they were crap on lpg but mint
on unleaded, the moral of this is to fully check it switches or runs ok
on gas or watchout for the bills coming

Thanks all.

Its actually two 05 combo's im looking at this Sunday. Proper factory fit LPG ones.

By the way, a question to all the lpg owners.....what mpg do you get with petrol and what mpg do you get with lpg? its slightly less with lpg right/ So it doesnt actually work out half price (if paying full price for the lpg of course)?

Yes vauxhall combos mate. Dont suppose you know the intervals for them do you? Id imagine it would be similar to other lpg vehicles?

What bits actually need servicing? There ex-NHS vehicles so i would have thought they'd have beeen serviced properly. Obviously ill do the proper checks though.
