Default bugger, i've just been made redundant!

well gets into work yesterday morning, the MD comes over hads me n my colleage a letter and says sorry

they have decided to shut all of their service centres down as they're not making money!

i have been in this job 7 years now and its been a quality job, but new management comes in n decides to shut us all down!!

the job; im a service manager/senior engineer for a Nokia & samsung Service centre, really enjoyed it and am truely gutted about it

im pretty fuct now tho, as i cant do anything else

they've put me on 2 weeks risk of redundancy, then after that its 2 weeks redundancy notice then im kicked out!

got to sell the cossie for defo now, n got to try n find a new job fast to keep up on my morgage payments n all my debt

oh well shit happens

Sadly nearly all companies seem to pay only the minimum they legally have to these days.

If it's 7 years in the job you should be getting 7 weeks notice under s86 ERA 1996 I think...unless you are getting payment in lieu?

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/..._on_redundancy bit at the bottom there on the 1 week notice after a months service...extending to 12weeks for 12 years

The weekly cap from 1st feb this year went up to £310 aswell if I remember correctly (ie the most you can get per week redundancy pay)...as it was £290 last year and £280 in 2005...so check they give you all of it!

I've only got 1 more week of being "at risk"

Been with the company 9 years, so thankfully I'm getting a good amount from them, will look at going contracting for a while, to earn some extra dosh.

so how long you been at risk then?

then you get 9 weeks notice of redunacy? then 9 weeks wages for redundancy pay?

looks like that acording to that link katie put up

n should be similar for be but 7 weeks

You should get 7 weeks notice by law as its 7 years you worked there.

Get yourself registered to an agency and work for them while looking for a new job, that way you wont have to sell the car or eat into your redundancy money.
Go in with an open mind, it doesnt matter a fuck if you are doing a shit job, even if its picking and packing in a warehouse or something you would never normally do for work, as its only temp.
The main thing is to keep money coming in so you end up gaining with the redundancy once you get a perm job again

I may be right in remembering that you are also allowed paid time off from your current job to allow you to try and find a new one
