Default Peugeot 306 starter motor help pls

Got woken up yesterday morning by my brother because his 306 wud'nt start

Tryed jump starting it and it made no difference (The battery seems to be fine as all the electrics were all working etc etc)

So we bump started it, it started 1st time and we got the car home.

When we got home we came to the conclusion that the starter motor had died, so off to the scrappy we went, and sorted a "new" one.

Fitted it this morning (a total bitch), turn the key and............... FUCK ALL

Put a jumplead straight from the battery to the new starter motor, jump in the car and turn the key and it starts up 1st time

I've come to the conclusion that it must be the perminant live from the battery to the starter that is at fault????

Does anybody know if this is fused on a Peugeot 306 ???? (I cant seem to find this in the haynes manual or in the car manual) If it is fused though does anybody know where is it located?

Is it safe to run a live from the battery to the starter as a temp / perminant fix???

Any advice / help /possible solutions / ideas would be appreciated

I've had it before on a 306td were it had lost its engine earth so I had to wire in a new once from battery to engine block - yours sounds like its the other way round!!!

Perfectly fine to fit a fixed positive to the battery as this is how they are wired in anyway - unless u mean the feed to the solenoid - if this isnt getting voltage when you turn the key make sure the ignition switch aint faulty!!!

Cheers for that mate

With a perminant live (jumplead) from the battery to the starter motor it starts 1st time on the key everytime.

Without the jumplead, when you turn the key, nothing

Is it safe for me to wire a new perminant live from the battery to the starter motor, as a perminant fix for this problem?

If so, what kinda cable do i need to use?

How much power does the starter motor require? Im guessing it needs to be pretty chunky cable?

Would it need to be fused? Or just a direct cable from the battery to the starter?

direct cable m8 you should be able to bu a length from any motor factors, then you will need to put the ends on or use an old jump lead cut and solder/crimp ends on but make sure its right and connections are good

Yes, a decent sized cable - you should see the one thats fitted there already!! Bit odd that tho - must have corroded internally so cant draw the current through it!!!

Perfectly fine to do permanently as thats how its wired in from the factory!!

Nice one for this people, so if i use some off cuts of an old power cable if got from wiring up an amp then this will be fine?

The amp cable im planning on using is thicker then the existing cable that goes to the starter motor.

Thanks
