Engine rebuild: which turbo, with which lag?
Hi There.
As I'm gonna rebuild my engine soon, I'm thinking about a new and bigger turbo then the current t03 I was using till now.
Can someone explain to me what the advantages and disadvantages are when using a:
T34, T35, T38, T40
I know that most of the time, how bigger the turbo, how bigger the lag, is this true, and is there something to do about the lag.
The engine I'm planning to build has the following specs:
- new oversized (+1mm) low comp Mahle or Cosworth pistons
- most likely my current 205 block (bored) with the current crankshaft
(offcourse balanced and grinded/refaced)
- arp studkit for the crankshaft
- all bearings new
- new oversized piston rings
- new 4-layer WRC headgasket with standard bolts
- rebuild cilinderhead (which is 1mm under minimum thickness after flattening, therefor low comp.)
- rs500 intercooler
- greys
The plan is to reach about 400bhp.
Any tips/ideas about which turbo to use, with how much lag?
(*Ideas or suggestions about the engine rebuild are also welcome offcourse, as I'm no professional)

to get a t34.63 to give 400 it need to be boosting about 33psi
with a lot of head work, maybe different cams?
i assume std c/r???
if on std c/r then the boost will start to kick in aroun 3500 and pull to around 6600

The head now has standard cams.
If I understand correctly, I should go for BD10 or BD14 cams?
The valves are grinded, the head is flattened, new hydraulic cam followers (Ford), new valveseals, new valvehats (or how they call them in english).
I will be using standard headbolts with a 4-layer WRC headgasket.
Will this hold/do with BD10 or with BD14 cams?

Okay, thats quite some new information
So what you're saying is that would need bd14 cams with a t4 to reach 400bhp??
I thought it would be easier
What do you mean with GT series?
