Both seem to work very well based on the experiences of people on here.

Mullet one is easy to get hold of, to get parts for, to get repaired, and is cheaper.

Also a rare opportunity to "buy british" too.

Id be going for that if I was 4wd

The Mulit/Barra/Reyland box is the one to go for in my opinion.

plus the fact you cant get hold of a fixit, and if you do and you then break something on it your car could be off the road for a year while you wait for them to do anything about it!!!!

No problems as such, just very noisey changing gear etc, very much feels like a race car not a road car.

Chip-3Door I have driven recently Evo race car with Shepard Racing dog-box and I must admit I fell in love with those...

I think I could live with it on daily basis for the sake of comfort when driven in anger, but I have no hope of such box lasting a long time in traffic. I don't expect OS Giken to be more durable.

My escos is fully trimmed and i have a full blown mullit box, uprated mainshaft and 1st ect ect

Marco is bang on the car sounds like it in reverse, in slow moving trafic you get a few looks, i personaly love the sound of it have had my car back from martin for over 2 weeks and havnt bitherd to fit the radio backin it

when im gunning it through the gears the mrs said it sounds like a spaceship and that were gonna take off

4th is so quiet as its direct and to be honest when your in fith your going so fast the noise from the car, exhaust, Engine and Wind drowns it out anyway

Im in Kent if ever you want to here it yourself

Was going to say ive experienced it in Rainbirds car, as described above about being in reverse would be a good verdict of it, slightly noisy but certainly nothing to be worried about.

im just curious how it will sound in my car, i guess similar to how it does in Lee's car (Porkie's), thats if there is a great deal of extra sound transmitted with it being fully stripped etc

i was going to mention Mike, small hiccup with his Mullit and it was fixed and back on the road almost within 48 hours.
Now thats a service

his Fixit kit hes still waiting to be returned, and i also think JonM600 is still waiting for his fixit gearbox to come back aswell, which has go to be getting on for best part of a year now

The Fix it kit is it for real ???? Cos I think they're a ghost!!! I waited over 6 months after I paid for the kit and I didn't got it at the end so I asked for the money back. Ok they gave the money back but i lost 100gbp on the transfer!!! Then I got hold of the bara gearkit from Martin Hadland and in just 2 weeks I was off to the drag strip lounching the shit out of the box and seems very strong holding my 550 horses. Not noisey at all!!

one thing i will say that" NO "uprated box will last for ever they will need something at some point

the quality of the Mullit gears are made very good and very strong

but if something in the standrad box lets go like a bearing or something like that could cause eaasly cause a gear to break same sort of the thing if a syncro breaks

the good thing with the Mullit/Bara/Reyland box when these are built they are built properly with brand new syncros/bearings seals

now if the box need selector fork/s and other things then theres a bit more extra charge

this is why we say if you can supply a good working box then that would keep the cost down for yourselfs

some of the boxes that have been sent to us have been bloody poor
bent selctor forks ect he still trys to make them mint again even by replacing parts without charging for them

most of you know that there are loads of options for the MUllit box

Like uprated 1st gear O.E standard in partern made in the same martial as the big tooth gear

pic of the gear kit

shot peening is avialble aswell 3 different grades

there is uprated mainshaft /uprated bearings /uprated Center Viscous Coupling options from 50Nm to 180 Nm

step of gears when you want to use a different rear diff ratio

all these are extra cost

when the gearbox is built it's put on the dyno to make sure everything is ok

pic of the DYNO

theres option for loads of different ratios for the 7"/7.5" and 9" rear diffs

uprated planet gears /uprated Viscous coupling

any make VC can be uprated any model providing it has a Vc

brand new 9 " diff casings genuine Ricardo/Ford

pic

can get any box rebuilt right from standard road box to the ffd/xtrac dog or sequentail any make or model

it's not just the Ford stuff he does

all this post is to let you all know and nothing else

cheers marco

For the full low-down on the normal gearbox options for the 4x4 Cosworths, check out this coming month's Fast Ford . FYI the Fixit is £500 cheaper than the Bara 'box, but that is immaterial, as Bjorn is to the gearbox world, what Simon is to the ECU world .

There are pro's and con's to the two kits, you just have to decide which is important to you - read the article and all will be revealed .
