Default failed on c/o

hi all, got my evo3 mot this morn and it failed on c/o should be 0.30 and is 1.72%
now iv just rebuilt the engine and have only done 300 miles and the guy says it might just need miles on the clock? how is the c/o altered can any garage do this job? and why would it be high just cus of a rebuild?

Lamda sensor should sort that one out, are you running one?

CO doesnt normally vary *that* much even when you are bedding the rings in.

yes mate im running one, on the paper it says

lambda 0.95 fail and max limit is 0.97 to 1.03

c/o 1.72 % fail and max is 0.30

Id suggest your lambda sensor isnt working if its allowing the mixture to drop to .95 at idle.

Cant they just do what any decent MOT place does and just stick the pipe up another car?

this is what mlr have said

get a wideband meter on it to check a/f ratio
check fuel regulator psi = 38 to 41psi
check/ replace lambda sensor

all the above should be done in conjunction with each other if possible

just abit more info on this.. for peeps

Cut off date is that it must have been first registered in Japan prior to 31st July 1995 IIRC - this means some EVOIIIs sneak in to the "no cat" test, some don't (although all EVOI and IIs do).

mine was registered on the 31/03/1995
