Default Tip of the day

Stolen from turbosport, but a good tip...

Quick question, what side of your car is your petrol tank?
If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look.
If you don't do this in your own car you definately have done it in a borrowed or rental car.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the petrol station or put your neck at risk of uncomfort or injury. If you look at your petrol gauge, you will see a small icon of a petrol pump. The handle of the petrol pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right. It is that simple!

I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated! Why don't the dealers share such importnant information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the drivers manual? I don't get why any mechanic I have ever been to or know has even thought of mentioning this to me? The only possible explantion can be that all these people probably don't even know!
Go out and share the world's best kept auto secret with your friends as this is information is way too important to be kept secret.

I looked on my sapphire and pump is the right side and on my Ka it shows a arrow pointing to fuel cap side...handy to know when borrowing/hiring a car

Obviously not,as most people dont know and who reads their car manual about how to fill up with petrol?
I did not write the above,i just copied and pasted from another site...i just thought it was a good tip,as after 26 years of driving i have never heard of it.

The pumps reach both sides of the car anyway, so not really that important is it?

This is my 1995 Mk6 RS2000 and my petrol tank is on the right of the car, so is this right as the petrol pump symbol is on the left of the gauge

Its the handle bit of the pump - which is on the right.

the location of the petrol pump icon isnt important

and yes, wonder of wonders, there is a little arrow on the side of the petrol pump icon that tells you which side the filler is

assuming that's what the arrow is there for, it might be there to tell the people who fit the instrucment clusters which side they need to be putting the arrow on

i must admit to checking the filler cap location before i drive off, but i can see where this would be benificial to some peole

probably a better thing to have would be a big stamp that comes out and twats your mrs in the forehead that says "petrol" or "diesel" judging from some of the posts put up here though
