Do any other ford starters fit it?

i think you can use pretty much any cvh one. i.e xr3, xr3i/2/2i etc may vary slightly in torque etc but should do the job, same bottom end in theory.

i thought about that but trying to find a cvh in the local scrappies is a nightmare

Think they are about £80/£90 exchange. I got one from my local dealer which is a totally new design and it's spot on.
