4cylinder engine.. but with 8 exhaust ports..

N/A application..

what reason would they make it like that then?
more flow but retaining something else? (back pressure ? is that even needed? )

any advantages/disadvantages?

Quite a few engines have heads like that. Either on one side or both.
Thats an MI16 head is it, or?

Not sure why exactly why though, efficency, but exactly what, dunno.

Looks like a 16valve version of a pre cross flow engine. Is there deffo another set of ports on the other side of the head?

Id say by the bolt design, it only takes an exhaust manifold... so I could see there being inlet ports on the other side tbh

Could be wrong though

Because two ports maintain a smooth gas flow than one.

Ive seen manifolds with bits of metal welded on that go into the head to achieve a similar thing, on racing series were you arent allowed to modify the head itself to do it.

Gains are pretty minimal though I believe, but obviously peugeot decided there was enough in it to be worthwhile.

Peugeot seemed to have someone who was in a creative mood in the exhaust department.
The 1.9 Gti has what looks like a 4 into 1 manifold but is actually 4 into 2 into 1.
The first pipe after the 4 branches is actually 2 half moon pipes welded together, which then open up to a single pipe as it joins the run under the floor to the back of the car.
