Default Impreza Question

Quick question for anyone in the know about the 1993-1999 Impreza...

Are the estates different in any way from the saloons in terms of suspension/running gear set-up?

Reason for asking is I'm getting the engine and running gear transplanted into my MK6 Escort in a few months, and still haven't found a suitable donor car after I had the ideal one sold from right under my nose

and a lot of ideal cars that are popping up within price range are estates, but I don't want to go and buy one if there are a load of differences and I'm going to be have to shelling out on spare parts from a saloon

If I know I've got to buy a saloon in the 1st place then fine, but if an Estate is just as suitable then that's a bonus

Cheers

They have the same running gear but something else to consider if you're after a donor car is the Subaru Legacy turbo. They have the same running gear as the impreza but they came with a charge cooler instead of the top mount intercooler and they are even cheaper to buy.

I had wondered about the Legacy...

Is the engine the same as well?

yeah, after a search, it seems that most are twin turbo, although I found one single turbo. Also they generally seem to have far higher mileage and a lot more are autos, but it's another option if the right one does come up

There's no shortage of Imprezas though, just waiting for the right one

legacys have different gearboxes and diffs to the impreza, but its an ej20 engine, although the head designs differ slightly.power is still relative easy to come by though! and i may be able to help with the entire package!

The do but it's just got longer gears really. The head design and valve train is slightly different but it doesn't matter too much. You can pick up Impreza heads off needed for about Ł80 or so.
