Rudey - I am off to Marco's now so we'll chat tommorow brv.
Matt - There was nothing wrong with the old block however now with the state of new power increase you have to cater for everything and do it properly.
Ben - no it is not a Farndon crank. I hope you can appreciate that I do not wish to disclose what crank it is or any other tech info about it on here.
Thanks - Sunny.

I've done a little research into steel cranks for normally aspirated applications and wondered whether the material used was different. Was also curious as to whether you are gonna be using ford sourced main/big ends OR some specially made jobbies from the crankshaft manufacturer.
The question on the bearings was something I never found a good answer to hence this post.
No worries.

b13nde - Ian has supplied the top half of the engine. Either way I choose not to tell too many people my business on here for various reasons which I am sure most appreciate. In short, I am going down a diffierent route now. Input from Mark, Ahmed, Ian, Bernie, Mountune, M-Sport is involved in addition to a few friends in the States who were rather keen to get involved in the project however can't say more than that for now.
As Ranj said, the turbocharger core exploded at 170mph+ resulting in an under bonnet fire however engine and most of car was ok....oh and the passengers. I will still be using the pistons and rods out of the engine that did 178mph hence nothing wrong with the engine at the time.
Ben - sorry mate but that's as much info I am prepared to release on here.
Thanks - Sunny.

looking good, the pic.. I'm saving money for a new/rebuild block too at the moment, the only I have now is a 205 block with worn out cilinders, and some parts which can be used again: crank, conrods, a to be welded and flattened cilinderhead (one year ago revised)..

maybe a typical Dutch question, but uhmmm
what does CGI mean and is? is this the type of engine block used in WRC cars or something (like there's a 200 and 205 block)?

Good Luck Sunny
I can't wait to see this all back together and running again, I guess Ranj's car still holds the record for the longest build

cheers guys
Steve - I suppose someones gotta put the UK FWD & RST's on the map with the big boys even if it involves cremating themselves for free.
Si - Both myself and Will Gollop are using CGI blocks.
Warren - Believe it or not I hear rumours that his is on the dyno VERY soon. I may take that title from him soon if it really does go on as quickly as he said it might.

10K+ Poster!!
CGI - compacted graphite iron
It has about 50 percent more tensile strength than gray iron and is being used in all levels of motorsports for high-end racing blocks...
Its also used in the new 2.7l v6 diesel in Jags at the moment.
Its basically much stronger so resist bore deformantion due to high combustion pressures better. The downside is its a little more expensive as a raw material but MUCH MUCH harder to machine and so cost a forturne to make anything out of it.
Sunny, where you suffering major bore flex issues on your old engine?
Alex

Clear story, sounds expensive too, not only purchasing buth also to machine.
In lots of posts I hear people talk about someone else going higher in bhp or lower in 0-60 time, would it be nice to have some sort of ranking here on pf?
Maybe the 10 best 0-60 times, with video offcourse
And maybe the 10 highest bhp's, with dyno images offcourse

Thanks Bob, will do mate.
Alex - no, old engine was fine however to be honest it really was on the limit for my liking. Most were surprised at how it stuck together with the power output as no one had really taken a road going zetec and engineered it to that kind of power level before. The reason for going to the CGI block and other new elements now is based on what I am looking to achieve in terms of new power output etc.
It's got to be properly engineered and reliable without cutting corners however downside is that I've stopped feeding myself, buying any new clothes and gadgets (inc camera lenses).
Thanks - Sunny.

Hi Sunny
New build is looking good
Any chance you can post up some more pics of the build?
The CGI block you are using is effectively a stronger version of a focus zetec block, (black top engine).
How have you got around the problem of the different cam belt pulley system? (Assuming you are using the early silver top type head?)
(The early and late Zetecs use a different layout for the belt tensioners)

No worries Franky.
Hi Austen, can't give too much info for now. Once it's all done I'll show you and give you a better insight on how I did it. Lets just say with the aid of a few 'one off's'.
I hear you brought a black top or two recently.

Hi Sunny
Be carefull of the oilways / waterways in the head if you go this route as it involves relocating the tensioner pulley
Made a few mods to mine recently
Should be ready for next summer
Grant Parker and Andy Nichols at AET will be building me a new turbo soon.
We all live 2 miles from each other so its very handy.
Post up pics when you have your engine all built up.
Would be interested to see how you have gone about it.
Cheers

I have a few of the black and silver top Zetecs in 1.8 and 2.0, and the 2.0 chain driven Duratecs that I am selling as complete engines. All done low milage, genuine engines, (not nicked)
PM me for details and prices if anyone interested.
