CB Radio.....
Before the internet chat room, us oldies had CB radio.
I refer to all types and bands of CB radio, FM, AM, USB, LSB etc...
Is CB radio dead in your area ???
Are you still on it ????
What was your handle ??
Anyone got any stories ????
My handle was "The Professor"
Met many bints through it.
Just had a clear out and found my old rig. Hygain 5 with a 300 watt burner.
May set it up for a laugh ........ "1 4 for a copy"

Tim at work admitted he used to use it and his nickname was "Black Stallion".
We have ripped the shit out of him mercilessly ever since. Both for using it and being called Black Stallion.
Hope this helps.

I`ve got one sitting in my shed, a Fidelity 3000 (I think) which had the extra 40 channels on mid-band. Used to use it when my mate did lorry driving, my handle was `mystery man`

LOL, i have a team euro basestation with the uk and mid band on it plus i have a voyage vr9000 with all modes and been moded to do a bit more.
I use an antron 99 antenna and have a rm kl 400 watt linear
There is about ten of us that use the uk channel 25 when we get time to go on but the main of us also use the 555s on usb.
ppl call me robert on the uk cb band as a handle and my call sign for long distance / over seas dxing is 26 GM 00, thats on , FM, AM, USB, LSB.
my brother lives some 12 miles from me and as they have now even done away with the licencing fees for the use of cb radio in the uk all you have to pay for is the leccy to keep it on, nice cheap way to stay in contact with my family with out paying by the min to have a chat over a phone.
Ive been into cb radio since i was a kid and cb will never die for me but like ppl have posted here, most places are dead for cb.
I think if places in the high street like dixons/currys started selling cb's as a cheap way for ppl to stay in touch with each other rather than pay as you go phones more ppl would buy and use it but as you dont see them in all shops most ppl dont even know about the cb radio and the fact you can use it for more or less free.

Its hard (read impossible) to have a private conversation on a CB.

Im talking about everyday chat over the cb not airing you deep dark secrets for all ear wiggers to listen to.
The thing is if every1 stoped using phones to talk to there family/friends locally and used cb the gov would make cb ilegal to use again cos they would loose to much money in taxes.
If every town had a big cb store more ppl would use it, the same as when you see a new food in the shop and think i will try that or see a new mobile phone on tv and think i want that.
If cb was pushed in ppls faces it would be just as popular today as it was in the 80's

it can cost upto about Ł600 for a good cb/side band set up or as little asŁ20/Ł30 for old 2nd hand cb stuff and then all you pay is for electric to run it and i dont think a radio with a 4 watt output will use much leccy.
It dont mean ppl have to do away with there mobile phones/mp3 players/camera's or landlines, just some lowering of the bills they get from using there phones when they could have a chat for more or less free over the cb.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
i remember we got hold of one
used to drive about in the car noising folk up until we got chased by about 30 cars one night when they finally sussed it was us that had an aerial inside the car
what a laugh we used to have .
ours was a rotel i think it was and was modded so could get 120 channels instead of 40 i remember that so they couldnt switch frequency to get away from us

10K+ Poster!!
Any original AM users on here.
I know Eagle use to be on it as we know a lot of the same people. We were talking about this a few years ago.
I still remember wiping out everyone else round Reading with a 1kw mains burner, sigma4 32ft aerial, superstar360 and the good old ham international big punch mikes that use to make you sound well bassy Still remember a guy called Mick from the DTi who tried busting me for the burners and using everything other than the legal 27 meg fm. I did play the game ....I paid the licence fee
Had loads of other rigs as well as the superstars sister the 148gtl dx, loads of Hams, stalker, the list goes on. Last time I hooked one up it was a few years ago and nobody was on there. Killed off by modern technology at a guess
Could do with a good old fox hunt

Well I set it up and found no one for 3 hours locally.
Quite a few italians on USB though.
Left it switched on whilst doing some decorating and then a couple of
old ladies were having a chat.
Turns out, I knew them from all those years ago.
As I thought, the net and mobile phones have killed it all off.
REACT are still on there too....Sad bastards
Was fun for two minutes, back in the cupboard it goes

I've been known to sit on 27.555 USB at work, can't remember what the 737's put out wattage wise, but it's a few hundred.....perfectly legal too, the aircraft has a radio license, if I can tune it, I can transmit on it
