What makes a Cosworth car a Cosworth.
Might seem like a simple question but everyone seems to think differently.
For me The Sierra, Escort Cosworth are only Cosworths because of the engine. Otherwise it would be badged just RS like the Focus, RST etc. Others think that if you took the engine out and put in another manufactures engine its still a Cosworth.
What do other people think ??

My Mrs always winds me up and says things like its only a Ford Sierra with a special engine blah blah blah.............
my reply is its a special Ford Sierra, engine, running gear, interior, brakes etc etc
Bottom line cosworth means fatness no matter what variant it is

its the spoilers! its a cosworth if its got the spoilers!
lol.... well considering that it was only really the engine that was changed and the rtest upgraded, i would say the engine... but a the same time, you couldnt put a YB and runnitnt gear onto a saph and call it a cosworth... so its maily the engine... but a bit of everything atthe same time!

It's the whole package, a 1.8 sierra with a cossie lump ain't a cossy is it.
But when you have the styling, the performance parts and the lump, then you get the whole thing and makes it special.

The Cosworth is not just the engine it's the derrivation or trim level of the Sierra model.

UNLESS THE LOG BOOK IS CHANGED.

The log Book would still say Cosworth because that is how it was sold by Ford & registered. But if the car no long has the Cosworth engine, for me its not one any more.
Seats & Transmission don't make a car what it is, as you say its the complete package that make the car, but the engine is a fundamental part.

what i dick you are mate,if the logbook says something then that what it is regardless of any mods/changes made
so i cosworth is no longer a cosworth once the engine is gone so that means you drop that engine in an old escort say it then becomes a cosworth because thats what engine it has

it obvious that fords came up with a deal which meant the car would be known as an RS cosworth so deal with it. they did call the granada a cosworth but it was not badged as RS and im sure they had there reasons.

The cosworth is a pure legend in my eyes. If you take the engine out of a cossie its like taking the heart out of a person. I dont think ford will make another car like it. If you take the motor out the car is still badged as a cossie. Ive seen a photo of a 3 door whale tale with a vauxhall xe turbo engine in. Why.

I'd imagine the reason the Granada never got the RS badge is becasue they weren't trying to sell it to the sort of customer that would buy an RS. I bet money Ford wouldn't of badged the Granada Cosworth unless the engine was built in some way by Cosworth.

i'd imagine its because RS means Rally sport., and they never had to homologate a granada as it was never gonna be rallied. lol
I think its the whole package that makes a 'Cosworth' TBH
Trouble is, they are more than the sum of their parts..
re-shelled 3dr is not gonna be worth as much as a Genuine 3dr cosworth ETC. even though its probably got all the same 3dr parts on it.
its just that little word on the log book that makes them worth more, if you see what i mean.

No they didn't, it was badged as a 24v although you see a lot with cosworth badges on as a lot of owners seem to add the badge themselves.
