iTunes Alternative
Hi guys, i bought a brand new 160Gb iPod today and i need some advice.
I have loads of music stored on my computer that i have ripped from Cd's in a folder in mp3 format.
I have been told, if i use iTunes it will convert all these files to Apples own format (which i dont want it to do!)
So, how do i get around this? and do i have to use an alternative?

You can still use the MP3 format in iTunes.
Just have to set the encoder in the advanced part of preferences, under the import tab import using MP3 encoder.
Depends upon your settings on your particular iPod, but on my shuffle I use the option to convert all songs -no matter what kind and bitrate- to 128KBPS AAC. That way, I can fit alot more songs on then if it they just normal MP3s.
iTunes is an awesome program IMO, can't see why you would want to use something else.
HTH.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I decided to give iTunes a go and it's not as bad as i thought!
You get the choice of what format you want to convert CD's into, mp3 or their aac. I just made sure i didn't allow it to change any of my files and it lets you drag and drop the mp3's straight on
Sorted
Anyone got any recommendations for replacement earphones?

The new version of iTunes is a nice looking piece of software - I especially like the coverflow feature....
But I still prefer Windows Media Player 11 - as thats what I use to organise and play my music. I use all the library features, album art etc and I prefer the layout of WMP11 to iTunes....
I recently got an iPod and didn't want to use iTunes, so I found a programme called MGTEK DOISP (google it) which is a plug in for WMP11 that allows it to work with any ipod in the same way it does with any other MP3 player - which was previously impossible as obviously, there isn't any support for iPods (which are Mac products) with Windows software other than iTunes, which is also a Mac product....
Works for me, although it only syncs music, and not pictures or video, and as of yet, there isn't a software update for the new iPods (80gb and 160gb "Classics" or the new Nano's)
