I have 195/50x15 on my other halfs astra.
It is currently on TOYO PROXUS T1R, was on Uniroyal Rainsport 1, before that, toyo better in dry, uni way way better in wet, especially standing water.
best ever tyre had recently in 15" was GOODYEAR EAGLE VENTURA, my god they laughed at water, I am not sure they are made anymore though ?
I know toyo are very popular, and not bad price either.

It's in this month's issue tabetha, the one that's been out about a week - issue 110 - test mule is a current shape Golf Gti .
There is a forthcoming tyre test in Autocar soon as well.

Problem is likely to be though that it will be 16" tyres up as generally most high-performance road tyres start at 16/17" sizes now rather than the 15s that Cosworths/RS Turbos came on, a consequence of performance car wheels getting bigger and bigger in diameter.
If it's predominantly dry use the Toyo R888s are pretty good in terms of "stick" if not progression, if it's mixed use there's not so much choice as in the 17s for really great tyres

Just looking through some tyre tests of smaller tyres, the ContiPremium Contact and Vredestein Sportrac3 seem to come out consistently well for all round performers.

I've got a set of Yokohama AVS Sports in 205/50 which are great in the dry but no longer available in that size.
I've also got another set of 888s in the same size which I used in the summer months

The T1Rs seem to be very popular with all the Jap boys - IIRC they had some issues with consistency in production....also they fell foul in a few tyre tests because the control version's performance didn't match the manufacturer direct supplied ones...so the results were excluded so you didn't used to see many results for them. No results for them in the latest "EVO" mag test as they couldn't supply tyres in time...

Got to be worth a try though now

i had michelin pilot excalto's on my 3i and found them to be spot on!!!

also give fulda carat exceleros a try, heard good things about them for a middle of the range tyre.

obviously R888's and prada's will stick like baby shit to a blanket too.

No probs Matt - it's something that interests me tremendously. When you see the difference in wet laptimes (on the same car but different tyres) you realise how much difference they can make....in the case of the Golf Gti a 7 second difference over a 60 second lap between best and worst! That's a 12% difference in time for the same car just down to tyres alone

Yoki should never have stopped the A008, they were awsome.
I used the Yoki GX501 on my mini but had to get sent over from japan, worth it though.
Anyone know when the autocar tyre test is out ?

Traditionally they always seem to publish them around end of Sept/Oct tabetha. Vicky from Autocar said it would be quite soon so I'll give you a heads-up when I see it

Im having extreme difficulty in trying to find a 15" tyre with a profile larger than 225!

I wanted 255/50/r15 for my 10" rims, but making do with 225 yoko A048r at the moment. HELP!

they can manage a sub 9 minute lap of the nuerburgring in a stg 0.5 cossie with 3 people on board, so they're not bad

very progressive, although the sidewall is a bit soft so they roll a lot. give good feeling though
