Paragon are the latest victim of the credit crunch, since they are a huge buy-to-let lender. Not as bad a situation as Northern Rock, but nervous investors etc etc....
Loads on it in today's Financial Mail, right next to a load of articles about your chief exec, Mr Spencer. He's doing okay for himself!

They're primarily a mortgage lender and not a bank, so don't have the same reserves a normal bank does.
In addition, Northern Rock have expanded rapidly by offering mortgages of more than 3x your earnings, at good rates. You can instantly see that this is riskier behaviour than most, and their profit margins are far slimmer.
So in my opinion it is the banks fault. They accepted the risk and it has come back to haunt them.
Depends if you're a bull or a bear as to whether you think shares will bounce. Could get a whole lot worse though....
WTF has that got to do with 3x lending and decent rates......it`s this narrow sighted attitude that causes such big share fluctuations when everyone panics..........

what are the chances of Northern Rock folding completley? Is it plausable that the share value could be wiped to fuck all? what would hapen to your shares in the event of a take over?

Just filling out the IG Index form thing as I am findign this quite interesting...
But it says:
Based on the information you have provided, we do not consider that a Limited Risk account is necessarily appropriate for you. You may continue, but you may be exposing yourself to risks that fall outside your knowledge and experience.
I dunno what this means? I thought limited risk account would protect me from going too far?

Someone mentionned RBS - as with all banks, very risky, but could rally short term, like they did 2 weeks ago. Barclays - same story.
I advise going short on homebuilders a few days before they release trading updates / results. Some will drop a few % on poor / murky conditions, in which case you'll win nicely. Others won't so set a stop loss nice and close.
Paragon.... WAY too risky unless for small money and low stop loss
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/shocked.gif)
Looking forward to seeing how people do!

Execute another trade that's equal and opposite.
Ie... you're long on NRK @ £10/tic...
Go short @ £10/tic and it will cancel.
However that sounds a tad complex for a platform "tested on children".. so they may have a big red "I WANT OUT NOW" button somewhere.

Whats the deal with igindex, i went in on NRK at 77 this morning and left it all day, i'm sure it never went below the stop opints i set all day (i was only in for £1.50 anyway) and it's no longer on my screen at all, the same happened yesterday but i just presumed that it had gone under my limit...
Really i should be 9points up from when i started...?
Is there anyway i can see what happened to it?
Cheers,
Matt.

given up on it now, as i lost £25 cos of that! Took my winnings and ran.

Auditor gave "SERIOUS GOING CONCERN ISSUES"..... could easily lose another 50% of value with a further big hit.

I don't fully understand it yet - but i've made 120% profit thus far! ![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
I get that if you buy you want it to go up and if you sell you want it to go down, but what part does the gap between the buy and sell amounts play?

Any compiler has to give themselves some sort of security, and that's what the spread represents.
There are complicated methods out there like CFD (contracts for difference) that work like spread betting, but off of a fixed point instead of a spread, but it's very different.

Only question i have is can you buy out side of trading hours? IE now at closing rate? and also im looking a NRK and there are four different periods with slightly different amounts. What onces do you look at?
Also the Trade Sense, anyone got any info from this?

My best shares at present are Barclays, purchased at 405.00 now at 510.50 due to there loss only being 1bn which was expected to be in the region of 10bn. I purchased a huge amount of rbs shares at 390.50 which are currently at 420.00 but they have announced anything yet, I would envisge them to be around the 700.00 mark by March / April 08 with a great dividend

Could be interesting on the NRK front today.
I was wondering, with IGIndex, can you bet on french shares? EADS the parent group of Airbus, looks like it may do well because of China's announcement today for a large number of aircraft.
Wondering whether to have a go, I've used Tradindex a bit on the player account, putting my money where my mouth is though is a bit different!
