Garage fire.........car is gone :(
In short, had a huge fire in the garage last night, fuel explosion whilst I was working on it, garage reduced to charred mess with the exception of the roof which survived, car totaled, only about the boot tub survived in any reasonable way albeit with melted allsorts all over it.
I had the family out in about 20 seconds.
2 fire engines took 2 hours to get it under control, and I ended up in an ambulance on oxygen after trying to fight the fire.
Hardly anything salvagable, whole front end destroyed.
Awaiting insurance help now with House, contents and the car.
Not a good day.

Thanks all.
you're all right, car and houses can be replaced.
And I was VERY lucky, to quote the fireman to have got out relatively unscathed.
I was actually working on the car at the time, laying underneath it, with it on axle stands when it suddenly exploded and engulfed the garage and me.
I ran through the flames (which is was burnt all the hairs of my legs and one of my arms) to get to the house to tell everyone to get out.
The flames instantly hit the roof of the garage and were about 6 feet wide.
And it was instant. Hard to explain but it really was like all the programmes you see on the tele.
Just hope the insurance is painless.

Sorry to hear what's happened - well done and thank goodness you managed to everyone including yourself out safely
Haven't had any dealings with home insurance yet, but with car insurance claims I've found that it's best to chase and chase from the outset, as it's more stressful not knowing what's going on! Also, no matter how organised and how great they promise their service is, you could still be let down. So I'd advocate being proactive and keeping notes of all the references / phone numbers etc

that must have been terrifiying mate
would the garage not be covered under the house insurance then?
it's another avenue to investigate and it may save you a few quid when it coems to renewal time if it is covered
well done for giving it legs mind, i would have been thinking "now then, what's caused that?" before thinking "shit, i'm on fire"

That has got to be our worst nightmare, something unexpected and dangerous going wrong while working on a car.
Glad to hear you got out and the family out and all safe

Everything not metal has melted from the front to the cockpit.
Chassis is badly scorched, not melted as far as I can see but it could be warped, the doors are warped. Everything glass broke including the windscreen (and the garage lights) not to mention all the things hanging up in the garage that melted onto the car.
