You can run 1080i or 1080p if your TV supports it and also have an Elite, like meeeeeee
You'll see what connections to use. Blue/ Green/ Yellow - I think. White and Red are for sound. If you have the cable that came with the Premium and the back of your TV in front of you, I doubt you'll get it wrong. Just make sure you flip the switch on the side of the bit that goes into the 360 to HD.

Basically:
Put all the pins in your telly EXCEPT the yellow one, unless you're colourblind should be ok
Then flick the switchpack on the leads to HDTV
Then start the 360 up without a game in there and it should bring your dash board up, go to system then i think its display then HDTV and set it to what you want, it should keep trying everything until you reach the capabilities of the TV
You may find 720p is better than 1080i

component will only do up to 720p
for 1080i you need a vga cable (i find vga much better and sharper than component)
if you have a 1080p tv and have updated the software on the 360 then you can use a 1080p source with vga to. it is not however true 1080p just 1080i upscaled
only the ps3 does true 1080p

is there a massive ammount of difference in picture quality ?
Matt
the very basicis of it are:
i changes the odd lines in one pass of the refresh and the even lines on the second pass
so if you have a refresh rate of say 50, the screen only actually fully changes only 25 times per second
the p means it change all the lines 50 times a second, regardless of wether they were moving or not

Usual load of bollocks talked on here.
1. Your Xbox 360 premium comes with a component cable, connect as Charlie Saff has said and select either 1080i or 720p. Whatever looks best to you.
2. All Xbox 360's can do 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p. VGA, HDMI and component cable offer the same screen res. Only Scart & Svideo cables offer STD definition. Some TV's will not except 1080p over component or VGA, though this is a failing of the TV and not the 360.
1080p is mainly used for HD DVD or Blu Ray, though they often downscale to 1080i as 90% off LCD's are 1080i. It is also worth noting that 95% of games are only 720p or 1080i and even the True HD that only PS3 offers renders most of its games in 720p
1080i V 720p is a debate that has been done to death. Certain TV's look better in 1080i than others though to be honest unless you sit 2 foot from your TV you wont notice a difference. Anyway get your 360 setup and enjoy it and leave the specs and tech talk to the nerds on the internet.

but............. last time i checked component could not do 1080p on the 360 due to legal reeasons. a vga cable is needed or a hdmi with the elite.
also, the 360 does not a bad job of upscaling dvd's but will only work with vga
also, there is no true 1080p games on the 360. 1080i is upscaled.
