Default escort gti / si

hi appart from leather i carnt see any difference between the two?

is there any performance differences, ive had an si in the past and it was awfully slow.

also it suffered from irratic idle.do all zetec engines that are the same design (not the yamaha) suffer from this?

if so how can it be fixed.

any opinion or advice gladly recieved

GTI has side skirts ,rear spats , half leather and 5 spoke alloys
SI has no skirts , no rear spats , no half leather and them nasty sort of 3 spoke alloys

the GTI has exactly the same engine as the 1.8 SI

a lot of zetec can suffer from erratic idling but most can also be cured easy enough

My bro's other halfs GTi had eratic idle but a new ISCV and all's sorted. With some nice bits they can be made to go ok. No ball of fire but certainly quite nippy

At the price GTi's cost id buy one rather than buy an si and do it up to look like a GTi, like some people have done, its just pointless when you can get one so cheap.
Mine also had a problem with idle where the revs would stick to about 2k, it was drivable but obviously a pain in the ass after a while but a new throttle position sensor sorted mine out, that was 2 years ago and it hasnt done it since

And as above get it chipped, exhaust, air filters etc and they go much better.

I dont quite understand why you said its slow anyway, its a 1.8 n/a what do you expect ive gone against other 1.8 cars and beat them all or drew with them.

They are slow - hideously slow.

Some of the early Si's also came with the 105 engine as opposed to the GTi's 115.

some SI's came with the skirts/spats & 5 spoke wheels, just not the half leather, everything else is the same (apart from cost & insurance)

GTi insurance was a coont for us, late 25 & 27, cost us £1000 for the 3 door with mods declared, £900 for the Gti they tried to say it was because it was a newer car
