106's seem to be more expensive, far less common and less chavtastic.
I love the yellow GTi's
Having said that, the saxo looks more modern and chunky, the 106 can look abit weak.
If it was my money I would go for a 2002 zetec s, great little cars, fun to drive and will be less than either of the other two, don't think there is much in the performance either.

Is there any difference in the chassis between them?
I've always liked the 106 and i agree with the chavtastic but the misses is paying half

Not bad on fuel etc but just waseant quick enough for me

People will try and tell you how one is vastly better than the others in terms of standard chassis set-up
They were the same car essentially suspension-wise apart from rear ARB and the fact that Peugeot developed their dampers in-house but Citroen bought theirs in from an external. Different ECU on the engine as well.
Later VTS ran on 195/45x15 as opposed to the earlier 185/55x14 for both cars.
Remember that Citroen were supplied on Michelin Pilot SX GT as OE tyres and Peugeot supplied on Pirelli P700. The "supposed" big difference in the "handling" came down 90% to tyres as REVS mag proved when they swapped wheels and tyres on 2 new cars. The Citroen was supposed to be a little tail happier at the back in extremis ( which seems to go against the grain of the softer ARB on the VTS ).
Performance Car did a back to back test ( before it was EVO mag) and the VTS was quickest through the slalom and generated the most lateral g as factory supplied
If you can tell the difference between a standard Saxo VTS and 106GTi in terms of chassis development on the limit, then get Lotus handling dept to sign you up, work as a consultant to Richard Parry-Jones or advise Dirk Schoysmann where he went wrong on the Skyline GTR suspension set-up
Buy the one you like the look of more or can get in best nick

i would say 106... too many saxo's about... i know in essence they are the same car, but not everyone knows that... but you will get it at a premium... so saxo if you want cheaper, 106 if you want 'different'... my 2 cents!

i have a saxo vts as my daily car and i LOVE it believe it or not!!
i wanted something as a daily runner that wasn't snail pace slow and could have a wee bit of ooomph about it. I preferred the look of a 106 but the saxo came up at the right price. You'll find that you can get the same year equivalent saxo for up to Ł500 less than the 106
Fuel economy is excellent also. Ł10 of fuel gets approx 80-90 miles. Fill the tank and do between 280-320 miles. More on a run.
All in all not a bad car. Watch the insurance though as it wont be pretty for a first car!! Last year i was Ł300 tpft but the renewal has just come through (christ i've had the maxo a yr!!) at Ł207
only thing gone wrong with mine was the ignition coil which is apparently common problem. Ł126 from ebay but WAAAAAAAY more from citroen

You might be confused with VTR which had a power hike midlife

I hate to admit it but ive had a few corsa b's before and the pedal layout was terrible so it cant be any worse!
I'm looking forward to having some decent fuel economy! Just need to get some insurance quotes.
She did get quoted Ł700 fully comp on a type-r and she only just passed! i hate wimen

both go thru driveshafts quite a lot. are a nihtmare to get the correct parts for and occasionally are prone to needing new coils and suspension arms.
oh, for coil packs, phone euro car parts, theyre the cheapest around. i work there, so sell all the repair parts too
it has been known for them to blow head gaskets, ithink that s more through poor treatment tho.
in an opinion, id go for the 106. classier lookin car with slightly better spec. saxos are that bit cheaper tho

I had a Saxo VTS, absolutely loved it
Was ragged everyday of its life for the four years i had it
But tbh, i would prob buy the 106 GTI now as it just looks vastl
different to a standard 106, as the saxo does not..
Or buy a Clio 172 ! muchos BHP

I love the 106, I like the looks, its got a less chavvy image etc.
However, the saxo is enough cheaper normally that in terms of what you get for your money, it makes far more sense.
Ignore what everyone thinks of a Saxo VTS as a chavvy car etc until you have driven one hard, they are GREAT cars.
Porkie should buy me a race prepped one for xmas IMHO

............
re the driving position the pedals are slightly offset so you're ever so slightly twisted and if you have anything more than a size 8 the pedals are just too close together
I couldnt drive one for anything more than short journeys and i'm 6 foot and size ten
As stated great little cars tho, very underrated

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I've got a 106 GTi with cams/remap etc, it's great fun - Engines are really revvy/responsive as standard, throw in a decent set of cams and they're even better.
I'm a size 10 and don't have any problems with the pedals, I would have but I pulled the rubber cover off the throttle pedal and it's MUCH better - Easily heel-toeable too.
Handling wise, they're pure comedy, give you so much confidence - Can't get mine to liftoff oversteer for shit, not sure if it's because it's so low/stiff but it just doesn't happen
As for going off the clock, mine saw 142 on GPS, you DONT want to be doing that very often, not in a 106/Saxo anyway

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Forgot to add, if you drive them with as much fury as I do, there's a good chance you'll fook it
Since the middle of March I've done:
Blown gearbox
Killed the top engine mount three times
Snapped a driveshaft
Snapped throttle cable
Snapped clutch cable
Fooked gear linkage
Killed starter motor
Killed alternator
Killed MAP Sensor
Exhaust fell off three times (Not a bad thing, it's a big gay Cobra japcan thing)
As a result of it falling off, bent the flange on the downpipe
Still love it though
