"aquire" latest versions of mcafee and norton Anti Virus (or try an online scan) and try them on it. Also download and install AVG's free antispyware scanner from free.grisoft.com.

If that don't shift it, then take a long pause, reflect on what happened, and kiss goodbye to all your data and reinstall windows including formatting the hard drive.

Download Hijack This http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...hijackthis.php

Then go to CYBERTECH

Then start a new thread in Cyber Safety section and copy/paste the Hijack This log in it after you have downloaded and run HJT.

Someone from Cybertech Help will assign themselves to you and help you get rid of the virus.

Im with dan, you have spent enough time arsing around and the problem is there, back up any data/files you want onto another hard drive or dvds then reinstall windows, at least that way you know your starting from fresh and there wont be any virus's etc

Honestly mate if you have a winxp/vista dvd its just as easy to reinstall windows sometimes than it is to spend countless hours trying to remove it, then your not 100% if it will come back.
Well ive done so in the past but i only needed one dvd to put all my important non replaceable items on

I use SPYBOT and Ad aware, after every net session, finds around 40 cookies plus loads of virus's each time.
I just reinstall around every 6 months.

tabetha Don't know how you are finding virus's with Spybot and AdAware, as they are both spyware and adware scanners

And if you ARE getting "loads of virus's" after every net session, then you have a serious security problem....

I do loads of downloading, visit loads of dodgy sites ( ) and yet have only ever had two virus's that I know of...

Cookies aren't a problem, and even if you don't like em, you don't have to use a programme like Adaware etc to remove em - just go to Temp Internet Files and remove em, or in IE, go to TOOLS > OPTIONS and delete temp files and/or cookies....

I don't get people reinstalling every 6 months. My XP install has been in for about 7 years now and apart from needing a new HDD, is as it came when I bought it.

As for this issue, if its pointing to a ccleaner website, do you have this installed? If so, try removing it and it might remove the Adware portion aswell.

The icons on your desktop, where do they point to on the web?

Cheers

screenshot of the stuff that comes up

then put in the lines into google and there is an almost certain fix for it

i've had problems with changing names on picture files which would lead to the program shutting down and it's always asked me if i wanted to report it and i always have, and now it's got a fix and sorted

also, the one i had killed media player, is it the same problem with yours?

I agree with the reinstall crowd. If you dont know what youre doing (no affence) then start from stratch. Gives your machine a fresh start aswell so it should go faster. Then install NOD32 and NOT Norton or any other resource thursty AV's and then stop downloading porn

If it is too much for you then take it to a local independant and get them to format it.

Good luck sir!
