I know exactly how and why these things happen as i watch drivers all day long.......Coming from the 3rd lane/fast lane what ever you wana call it, trying to come off the slip road, clipping the front of an artic cleaning out the two cars in the lane next to it and ending up in a heap on the embankment......Just one of the accidents i have seen...Just because he wanted to get one or two more cars forward in the que.....
Belive me there are some real TOSSERS on the road.

Thats the one that crashed in my driveway!
It happened 6 or 7 years. I moved to Somerset (from London) three years ago. A couple of months after I setteled in, the previous owner came to vist me and see how I was enjoying life in Somerset.
He noticed that I had a Cosworth and proceded to tell me of how one summers evening him and his wife were on the patio having tea and heard a very loud bang. Then 4 - 5 seconds later they were both showered by fragments of glass that hit them and the house. The house/patio is about 80 feet away from the driveway where the impact happened (
The Cossie was overtaking and did not pull in on time and hit a transit van semi head on.
He told me that he was first on the scene and it was VERY obvious that the driver was dead! No passenger thankfully.
Blood everywhere - his wife was screaming.
He told me the story, and I sort of pictured in my mind how bad it would have been.....thought that he may have been exagaratiing.....Then last I saw the above pic here on PF......while looking at the pic I thought "god - bad crash" then suddenly noticed the roof line of the house and it dawned on me that it was my house in the picture! Spooky or what?

you know the year of the incident ?
1998 - 1999 ?
that has got to be one of the worst car accidents that somerset police have ever seen...
i would like to have seen exactly, what the hell, happened for the car to be mangled so much
i have never seen a cosworth that badly mangled, its beyond belief when you look at the picture....
i would imagine the speed at the time of impact was about 80mph...

In fact that pic IS USED by the Somerset/Bristol & Avon Police force in their road safety campign/mobile trailer at shows all over the county......So it must be one of the worse accidents on record
Impact speed? Well eye witness said that the Cossie was overtaking at well over the 60 MPH limit of that road........so with a transit coming towards it at say 50 - 60 MPH thats an impact speed of 130-140
