Default How will a 230bhp escort turbo compair to a 350bhp cosworth?

I would say on road straight rolling start the RST would keep up.

On track very close...
0-60 not a chance
top speed run not a chance.

Power to weight ratio SHOULD even the two out IMO

Im running 235 in fiesta and can give a 400 bhp escos a good run for its money.

Your going to need a good gearbox though...

its a little like comparing getting to work on a bus or getting to work in a taxi

they both take the same amount of time but the feeling of travel is sooo much better

infact doing over 110mph in a escort feels like the opening race scene i the first fast and furious movie,,,,, where bits are falling off hes car and hes trying to hold it together

driving a 350bhp cossie feels NOTHING like driving a 230bhp escort,,,,,, hence why i never finished my cabrio and bought a cossie

btw the gearing on theIB5 box is also shite,,,, a cossie will be doing 90mph in 5th gear at just under 4 grand,,, a erst will be screaming,,,, but you cant hear that over the road noise, wind noise and the rattling of all dash ect,,,,,,,,, the bonnet flying over seems to distract you from the noise also,,, that and the watching it everytime you drive waiting for it to do it again next time also does it

Many years ago when I was running my old FWD (non Ford) with about 220bhp I raced a certain white Cosworth which had only 350bhp then (Now a new owner I guess and well over twice the power) at the Pod.
I beat him to the 1/8th and he pulled it back and easily beat me over the line. He did a mid 13 I did a mid 14.
So I wouldn't think you stand much of a chance.

i never finished mine,, ive driven enough and it was oranocos that made me realise that a 300bhp fwd car was just a wank idea

he LOVES it,,,,, but then he also has a pony tail and listens to iron maiden

tbh id never even bother with another cossie after going out in lots of other cars since, id rather a scooby tbh than a cossie

If you were to say 260 instead of 230 would have been quite a good match...

When i got me engine built by harvey with the new T34 i had a tear-up with a 1.9 rst running 260ish and it was quite square tear-up from 50 - 130. Bearing in mind i did drive like a complete loony when i was younger I was quite impressed!

Ginge, 4k is 93 mph in 5th on S2 ratio's. It's actually pretty high geared.

My yee old S2 is good cruiser, mainly down to the extra soundproofing, and geometry set for high speed

230bhp RST would be wasted by 350bhp Cossie IMO.

i had a 375 bhp saff.......and i now own a 17psi S1 ( power unknown)........my saff would crucify the S1..........but the S1 (when it runs) is definatly a more smile per mile car

plus there is no cossie tax on the parts

My XR2turbo is about 250-260bhp at the moment, my bro had a 330bhp 2WD saff, The saff was by far a nicer all round car, but the XR2 is just mental. It see's off my mates E46 from 40mph onwards

hypothetical, is it raining? are you going around bends?
there is a lot of ifs and buts, a well driven standard rs turbo
would be faster than a crap driver with a fast cozzie

it would also depend on if the cossie was 2 or 4wd, 2wd cossies are quicker thwn 4x4's.

i've had a few 200+ bhp escort turbos & a 300+ bhp 2wd cos would win hands down, 4x4 would struggle.

unless it was raining or damp or you were revving the sack off it
down lanes sideways etc then 4x4 is faster
4x4 cosworth was for rallying, series2 rs turbo was for err i don't know
even though i have had them in every standard colour ford made them

I remember this from years ago on another forum if i remember correctly 230bhp escort is on par with a 330bhp cosworth.

My fiesta is around 150bhp and it left the m6 toll booth hell of alot quicker than my mate T4 4x4 well until he hit 4th and it was gone into the distance

ive been in xrt-si's car,,,, now thats a quick car with carbon seats and fuck all else in it,,,, its quick but has no traction,,, no direction to go with it and then top end its not very fast due to the gearbox

in a nut shell fun car to rag,,, shite car to actually race and own

my cossie would piss over it no mate what anyone says and would keep pulling to the rev limiter with no traction issues nor any " the car wants to go everywhere but straight" issues

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
My car is approx. 230-240 bhp at 13psi.
My mate has a stage 3 2WD cossie, running approx. 350+bhp, we raced from 60-140ish (on a private road) and we were absolutely dead equal. I couldnt pull away and nor could he. Make of that what you will but Id race any 350-400bhp cossie happily as Iam 99.9% i wouldnt get embarassed.

To be fair though my car weighs fook all compared to a ERST/FRST.

si your mates car is 350bhp at paul hills holding 22psi,,,,,

i know that my car pulled harder than yours does and to the limiter as ive been in both,,, i also know that my old cossie done it in a straight line with me having one hand on the wheel and the other to change gear

your car weighs less and is a 16v engine with a t34 and higher comp than a cvh ect,,, different power delivery,, your car has alot of low down torque my cossie never had too

but having a laugh,,,, i know my cossie can do it with more control and for a longer period of time and i wouldnt feel like ive been to the gym,, nor been shitting myself

a 400bhp cossie is alot different to a stage 3 cossie running pissy 27psi like mine was too,,,, there holding 32psi,,, give Abr500 a race in hes escos and see the difference,,, motorways where talking about not round town as the power bands are different

lol didnt read that. Not being funny but I would bet money my car would paste your old saff all over the place on certain roads. It took about 3 hours to come on boost ffs

Same way your car was shite to own in terms of cossie tax, insurance, theft problems ( ) lag, etc...

As you know ive thought about buying a cossie many times, and glad I havent right now

Sounds a great car, but would you go up against a 350+bhp 4x4 cosworth in the damp, around bends etc?

round town yes,,, on boost, fuck no

my cossie pulled fucking hard to the limiter and went very very well

remember i was MAXING green injectors that it was running lean after 6k in 4th and 5th,, i just used to change gear at 5krpm if you remember

its a little blinkered to ignore that a cossie with 27psi will loose to a 13psi zetec considering i was maxing the flow of the injectors too

round town is was shite cause it had a ported head and 2 bd10 cams,,,, they are shite below 3krpm and take away the drivabilty hence why i had to get them retimed and only fitted 1 bd10 when i redone the engine

wonder how yours would compare with a bmw running greens and a cossie engine, to say,, 160mph ?????

lol settle petal.
Johns Cossie is holding 27psi, i didnt mention Paul Hills bullshit roller figures of 375bhp for a reason, but Id say its fair to say its running 350+ on his spec.

Shitting yourself is half the fun, great doing 100 and fell like your doing 30...loads of fun...no seriously...put it on youtube

I never questioned which car was more in control, simply which is faster and are you forgetting I did go in your cossie a few times And as you stated my car would be faster in certain condtions, end of

simon i mentioned your car for a reason,,,, cause its a very very good drivable car due to the powr deliverey for what the car is,,,,, its very light too and its very quick compared to other erst's ive been in

that was actually my point ,,,,, its go fuck all inside it,,, got a t34 and a zetec engine and its quick,,,,, most erst's aint quick compared to it

but your car is deadly after 120 and it seemd to struggle before at going more ( it went more but didnt pull) but then i wont comment on that as you did have a dirty great hole in the manfold so im guessing thats gonna be better

drivers balls are also a factor too,,,,, i spanked porsche in my cossie as my balls are bigger than hes,,,, he was quicker but he didnt seem to like going over a ton on a 40mph road,,,, where i didnt mind

What even worse is that a shonky 300bhp let nova would waste both of them

Add a bit more power and it would soon keep up with much more powerful machinery too

Throw some wet weather into the equation though and obviously most things fwd wouldn't stand much of a chance.

As per the orginal question I would imagine 60-120 would be similar, thast IF both cars were that power an dbeing driven by someone with half a idea on how to make a car go well

ITS A FUCKING NOVA
