it may be that there is a cloned car out there claiming to be yours and thats why they want the mot and log book etc
send them copies, not the originals
if that isn't enough, get anotehr copy from the mot station and send a letter to the dvla asking that your log book be sent to your address as the insurance company are investigating, they'll ask you to send the one you've got back to them so you'll have nice fresh paper to show to the insurance company

Heres an understanding of the insurance categories mate, B is very serious so hope it not your car.
I can run you an HPI check if you want one for your own peace of mind.

Category A: SCRAP
Where a vehicle has been destroyed by fire or so badly damaged, destroyed or deformed that it has no commercial salvageable parts, or the vehicle has been involved in a flood over seat level. The vehicle must be decontaminated and then the bodyshell crushed. These vehicles will not appear in any of our auctions.
Category B: BREAKER

The vehicle should not be repaired but sold for parts only to authorised breakers / dismantlers. These vehicles can be purchased by authorised breakers / dismantlers at any of our Breaker auctions.
Category C: REPAIRER
A vehicle where the repairs are assessed by the inspecting engineer as, exceeding the pre-accident market value. These vehicles are repairable and can be purchased at any of our Salvage auctions.
Category D: REPAIRER
Where the cost of repairs do not exceed the value of the vehicle but either the insurer or the insured does not want to repair the vehicle. These vehicles are repairable and can be purchased at any of our Salvage auctions.

i had this with my 3 door, i had it stripped to a bare shell and i got a visit from the police saying it had been seen in london jumping red lights
so i took them down to my workshop and showed them the car
2 weeks later i got a letter from dvla saying that as i had not sent the logbook back and somebody else had registered it i was being fined £120
so i phoned them and told them i still had the car and it was in my workshop....so they sent some copper round to do a V.I.C check on the car and it was proven that my car was the genuine article
he had also looked at the other car and said it was obvious that the other car was not genuine as it had no numbers on it
when i asked him what would happen to the other car, he told me that it would be given an age related plate and have a new number stamped in it by the police as the owner had bought the car in good faith
when i asked the copper ....so if i knicked a car took all the numbers off it and then cloned it , you would give me an age related plate for it......he said as long as you can prove that you bought the car in good faith and the car had no identity proving that it was stolen....YES
