Default ECU chips

Is their any way of tellin what type a chip is (or what the map is) ive just bought a l8 ecu, the guy who sold it 2 me had bought it ready 2 convert over 2 waisted spark n closed loop, but he sold up b4 fittin it, problem is he hasnt got a clue what chip is in there,

I dont wanna fit it if its been mapped 4 a completly different set up?

Unless marked on it then NO there is NO way of telling apart from reading the MAP contained inside.
Even a std ford chip can have a totally different map put on it.
