Default Who wears race boots on track days?

Sparco? Alpinestars?

I noticed on the quick track session I did on Ford Fair that my trainers where very clumsy, thought about getting more appropiate shoe as I remember seeing the Sparco Puma shoes, but wondered if you look like a dick walking around in them at the shows maybe I'll just get some tennis shoes

I wear sparco shoes when racing, much better than my clumsy trainers.

I'd never wear them off the track though, way too show pony for me.

Paul, get some black Sparco boots and if you're wearing jeans you can hardly tell. It's amazing how much better track driving is with a proper race boot with ankle / heel support and a thin sole though.

I agree!

I have loads. Sparco little black booties are my fav though.

I REALLY want to start wearing my Nomex race suit to trackdays because Sierra is 1. very fast and 2. Has a huge fuel tank in the car and 3 I am not keen on the Simon Weston look....

But I am too worried that everyone will think I am being a twat

Sadly... at ND I think I am going to wear it. I know its looks cuntish and its only a Trackday but if I crash hard it will help ALOT if it goes up...

Just thought I'd dive on for a quick browse before heading out on the beers, and thinking to myself, "I bet someone has taken the piss out of me somewhere".

Thank you Mr Eggleton.

I have a few pairs, and I love em. Makes heeling and toeing so much easier than with a clumsy pair of trainers....

Seconded.

I want to get a pair of proper boots, at the moment I have a pair of old thin soled Nike trainers. They look knackered but give a good pedal feel and I can heel and toe well in them. Can heel an toe in my suit shoes but the feel is really deadened and it's more tricky to get it right.

Right tools for the right job

i have pair of kangaroo trainers that look like race boots

it's nothing to do with trying to look pro (and ectually looking a bit stupid), and everything to do with hitting only one pedal at once with my size 12's

Why the fuck do you lot care about what other people think??

If YOU want to ware a full bio-haz-chem suit its your choice!

I personally wear my boots and gloves when I drive round the 'Ring as the level of feed back you get is greatly impoved...

The gloves help with sweaty plams - after all you look like a far bigger fucktard if you crash because you couldn't quite hold that drift

I think even if you stuffed it really, really hard, its unlikely to blow up. I get the belts and braces ideology but I cant recall ever hearing about a fire at a UK trackday where the owner was actually burned. ISTR Dan put some form of box around the fuel cell anyway for Time Attack regs?

Even a FIA approved suit is only flame retardent for a limited time. (Its under a minute I think but Nuts will know for sure) So unless you are getting out of the car quickly you'd still get burned. And as a final question would you wear gloves and a fireproof balaclava and underwear at the same time?

EDIT

http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.nsf/35C5837CC89E8BBFC125731500433076/$FILE/5_8856_2000_overalls.pdf?Openelement

7.3 is the test. If I read that right its 11 seconds.

With clothing Rich you buy yourself time to get out, not to test it to see how long you can stay in.

Same with boots, we have to use flame retardent ones, the Kart boots or Ł25 quid jobbies are normally made of some sort of cotton/nylon derivative material, which if caught fire would actually melt onto your feet.

Yeah I understand that Particularly the part about people wearing Kart boots thinking that ALL Sparco boots are fireproof.

I was wondering if Lee did. I didn't want him thinking a race suit was the same sort of thing that Firemen wear.

i guess if you wantoed to buy yourself some time, you could wear the fireproof underwear under your normal clothes?

boots-wise i have some merrell lightweight trainers, very thin soled.

as they are a drab green, they don't stick out at all.

sparco do brown leather vintage style boots that have modern FIA fireproof rating
