F.A.O BMX'ERS SKATEBOARDERS & INLINERS
portsmouth council is trying to close southsea skatepark if u have never been there get ur ass there and check it out before they try and shut it, ive been riding there for 15 years and cant imagine it being demolished and replaced by a field or carpark
sign the goverment petition below and stop one of the uk's most well known historic skateparks being demolished

I will sign too.
Thats a big shame, one of the last remaining famous skate spots
We used to drive down for the day back in 1991/2 for a days skating, calling it at Romford skatepark and Stevenage too

I did an A Level project on this place in 96-97, would be a waste so signed too
You know the worst thing about inline skating though?
It's having to tell your mum that you're gay.

cheers guys, what annoys me the most is the council say theres lots of skateparks in the area now but there all shitty little ones made for kids
southsea has helped produced some of englands best riders
denis wingham ( crash test dummy and a good mate of mine)
anthony pill
james hitcock
mark web
mike o'connell
effraim catlow ( twice world champion flatlander)
ronald ivor johnson yes its his real name aka ronnie remo
carlo griggs who was and prob still is as good if not better than matt hoffman
simon tabron
plus many other riders who used to visit southsea

The south c skatepark is litterally 5mins walk from my house be gutted to see it go, many friends named above have still do and wish to continue riding there.... Its pure stupidty to get rid it off it....
It would be like closing down Silverstone for Lewis Hamilton.......
Maynot get a huge coverage but when you see the likes Mark webb doing stuff like back flips into wheelies you understand why its needed....
Check out the links below Mark is 21 rides southsea park 24/7 and beats all the US riders at comps abroad....

Lmao - i know what you mean Kev... but he is what its all about, shitty concrete skate park on the south coast that gets sold from one person to the next through the council......
That concrete skatepark is the home to the bst riders in the country....anywhere else there would have been a indoor skatepark built years ago...

sm you forgot all the new kids coming through too, like mark's mate ben wallace, those 2 are killing it all over europe, top 5 both of them at nearly every comp, then ya got cam hardie, the lil shredder who is easily one of the most stylish riders in the uk and my mate tony watkinson has just moved down that way and hes blowing up bigstyle, can do tailwhips into and out of any other trick
oh yeah, signed, lol, 1 of funnest parks i've riden

completely forgot about ben as ive not seen him there lately, not too clued up on new riders as i just ride for fun these days and no longer go to comps or buy any mags, hopefully it will stay open so a new breed of potential world class riders can come up through the ranks having rode southsea park

I think you guys are more hooked up on the scene that used to be southsea not the park. Which I'm sorry to say is fairly poor , any rider in this list which has got pro is due too alot of travel and mostly to woodward.
Times change and southsea didn't keep up.
R.I.P southsea.

sorry but inmo ur wrong as i said before ive rode southsea for 15 years and i agree in the 90's the scene was alot better but the skatepark today is much better than back then we have a 6ft spine mini a dedicated street course which no longer gets cleared out for roller hockey, a permament jump box a vert ramp which isnt falling apart and having bodge repairs all the time, u have training sessions for younger riders where they get to spend 2 hours with a experienced rider/skateboarder/inliner helping them to develop there skills
i rode/ drank and just hung out with denis, pill, hitchcock, mike o'connell, mark webb, ronnie remo, effraim catlow week in week out for more than 7 years and am still friends with them all, i dont disagree that they have travelled and that has helped there riding but to get to that level where they were able to travel the world free to ride they had to get there riding to a certain standard which they did using southsea park
if ur talking about the uk then all riders go to different skateparks for a change now and again, ive been to most in the uk with all the above riders inc the original backyard jams, northampton worlds qualifying comps, crowehursts secret ramp/jumps before it was a well known spot, birmingham indoor park, skaterham, playstation, most of these no longer exsist and backyard jam will never be the way it was in the 90's
my point is no matter how much u travel u will learn/perfect most of ur riding at the place u go to the most and for the above riders this was/is southsea hence why they are on the save southsea skatepark committee

The fact its not as good as it was in its heyday is due to the fact the council cant be bothered and dont show an interest in it, money matters.
Money is needed to finance competions - such as King Of the Concrete which in its day saw the worlds best come to Southsea for a long weekend.
Southsea is the heart of bmx in the uk and it so should stay that way. Instead of paying stupid amounts on fancy seat furniture and the shitest looking tower in Portsmouth put it to good use, make some more southsea stars from the skatepark, believe me if you ever see any of these young riders you will be totaly shocked.
Why will you be shocked - cos thereTHE BEST YOUR SEE -FACT!!!
where did they learn it - SOUTHSEA.
