why is it people now feel the can got at any speed they like in any lane!!!!!!
you see people all the time doing 10mph under the speed limit sitting in the middle lane and outside lane when there is fuck all in the inside lane.
i belive the roads would be alot less congested if you had eveyone move back to the insiude lane when not overtaking.
elce you get someone doing 60 in the inside lane and someone in the middle doing 60mph so eveyone who wants to do 70mph has to move all the way over into the outside lane to get past the nitwit in the middle lane tossing around. why can't he go in the inside lane so the reast of the motorway is free.
it really piss's me off

Most seem to believe the inside lane is for Trucks only, I watched this old couple come off the slip road & go straight into the middle lane & the inside lane was empty.

Its just lazy, selfish and disrespectful driving. I really do believe that some dont even realise their doing anything wrong though.
Another thing is when people do 70mph in the 3rd lane because thats the speed limit so stay there even though your behind wanting to get past them.
JoeE30, and dont even get me started on lorry drivers!

as a class 1 truck licence holder it does my fcuking head in that some other truck drivers havent got the courtesy to back off a little to let another truck past while on the motorway so reducing long lines of trucks in the middle lane !!!!

Thats a major cause of the traffic problems on motorways. Especially on the two lane A1 where you get two lorries side by side for miles with one going 56mph and the other going 56.1mph, with a massive tail back of cars behind them!!!

what gets me is the people who hog the outside lane doing 60-70 and when you come screaming up the back of them they just sit there, its a overtaking lane FFS and to get past them you have to undertake
its a fucking joke at times. i know you can say im goin over the speed limit in the first place but its common sense that if your gonna adhere to the speed limit you shouldnt be in the outside lane.

I'm a fuel economist. i sit in the inside lane keeping speed with the truck infront of me - I see 550 miles out of a tank of diesel in my escort that way.
If I do 70/80 on the motorway I only see 450 miles to a tank - go figure

Having to travel the M25 and M1 a heck of a lot I see some bloody stupid driving. The number of times I've seen articulated trucks having to slam on because someone dives in at the last moment is staggering. On the flip side though you get huuuuuge tailbacks of ppl in the 3rd lane because there are two lorries passing each other, or a mile ahead they see a lorry in the middle lane and think "Shit I'd better get into the 3rd lane now then!" ARGH!
What bugs me is this undertaking thing. Ok so some people do it and its ruddy dangerous but sometimes I have sat in the 1st lane alllllll by myself, with queues in the 2nd & 3rd lanes, and yet I cant go past them? That's stupid! If they are dumb enough to create a traffic jam why should I have to hang back?!
Then there are the rep mobiles... ohhh dont get me started on them. Its all just discourteous and thoughtless driving.

I always laugh when i see people jump straight out into the 3rd lane when they see slow traffic ahead or the ''queue ahead'' signs flashing. I just stay in the left lane and 99% of the time you end up a couple of miles ahead until all the idiots realise and force their way over to lane 1.
If everyone left a decent enough gap and anticipated what the few cars in front are going to do earlier, then there would be far less traffic jams.
Rubber neckers also piss me right off. A crash on the opposite carriageway almost always causes a similar jam on the other side cos of all the nosey bastards slowing down for a gawp!!!!
As said above, with regards to overtaking lorries causing mayhem behind them to get a few yards ahead of the one in front, i know of a couple of places where there still testing by not allowing lorries in the 2nd lane. You can guarentee that that 5 mile stretch is always a clear run, until the END signs appear and they pull straight back out again and your back to square one!

Its everyone switching lanes every 2 minutes to get a couple of cars infront that slows it down even more!
I nearly always stay in lane one when theres a big jam. Especially when it SEEMS to clear and everyone jumps back out into lane 3 instantly.

Really? Ooooh ok then!
lol
I nearly had a nasty nasty accident thanks to a rubber necker. I was driving a dubious rusty Transit from "Rent A Wreck" (hey they werent lying!) and was going along quite happily when the BMW infront slammed on to have a gawp at the accident on the other side of the carriageway. Squealing tyres, fishtailing from lane to lane (thank CHRIST there was no one behind me coz I couldnt see them!) and good blast on the horn and some vigourous swearing from me.

most congestion could be avoided if every road user had consideration for all others. it's the selfish ones that cause the problems
the twats that won't leave a gap for others to filter into, that go through red or amber lights and block the junction, that drive too close to the car in front etc, etc

I know the standard of British driving is appalling but my eyes were really opened when I went to Germany, almost everyone there has a fantastic level of observation and courteousness. It’s as if they realise that everyone is driving to get somewhere, and if they all help out it'll make our life so much easier. On the autobahns EVERYONE drives in the right hand lane apart from when over taking, although on my way back there was one car hogging the fast lane, it was a Megane convertible on a British plate driven by a woman. Surprise surprise
![Wall](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/wall.gif)
On British motorways I stick in lane 1 at 70Mph and undertake anyone who is hogging lane 2, some of them even have the cheek to flash me and give me the fingers

I've now resorted to using whatever lane is free now, with care before the nazi's start
. Lane discipline just doesn't exist in this country.
I love the fuckers that pull out to overtake at the last minute, yet they've seen you approaching for the last 3/4 mile. Then proceed to travel at the same speed as the car they are attempting to overtake. Then even better, don't pull back in. Utter cunts

Gary_R there is a better standard of motorway driving in germany, and i would suggest that it is due to it being a compulsory part of driving lessons and the test
but it's not perfect. you can get massive - 20 mile plus of stationary for several hours - traffic jams at times
people have been known to die in them in both winter and summer

its like people just want to have that edge and want to beat the cars in the inside lane by by half a meter.......FOR FUCK SAKE ITS NOT A RACE
![Wall](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/wall.gif)
and then the idiots doing 60 in the overtaking lane give you evil eyes when you flash the stupid fuckers out of the way coz you wanna go faster.
I think it should be compulsary for all new drivers to do some sort of seperate motorway theory or practical test and should show a good understanding to how to use the motorways of U.K. properly before they can pass.

personally i think that one reason that autobahns in germany have better lane discipline than here (apart from it being part of the lessons and driving test) is precisely because there are the derestricted parts of it and you do have to be careful when you pull out to overtake so as not to cause an accident that could so easily kill both you and the faster driver coming up behind. and nobody wants that.
not all of the autobahns are like that, but the mentality is still there, and the it helps to reduce the number of drivers that pull into the overtaking lanes only to dawdle along in somebody elses way. that again comes down to consideration for other people (something that germans are not particularly well known for in other areas of life)

Worst thing is the idiots sitting in the middle lane when the inside is clear, i think they just feel 'safer' sitting in the middle lane which is incidentally an overtaking lane, i sometimes flash them out of the way or just go past them then straight into the inside lane, sometimes they get over, sometimes they dont, it just goes to show the concentration levels of some drivers i think, mindless..
Also, why do some lorries feel the need to overtake other lorries when they are literally driving 1 mph more and struggle to get past, holding up the traffic behind, is it really going to make that much difference to their journey if they dont pass ? this is awful abroad in my experience as well as over here.
I also hate the way that most lorry drivers, by simply putting their indicators on, think they have the right to pull out, i appreciate they need to keep their speed up but sometimes its not always possible to move over for them and makes you come to a near enough stop
In Germany / Holland / France / Belgium where i drive A LOT, they are so much more alert and considerate, if i am whizzing along in the outside lane and approach a car that is not going very quickly, they simply move over then pull out behind you again to save holding you up which is what i do for them too, our mentality is just 'lets slow this car down and make him wait' which is frustrating as hell, i have to say i feel much safer driving abroad than i do here every time i go.

So to all that want the lorries to sit behind each other think of this, why should i sit behind another slower vehicle when you dont when you have somewhere to get to.
I have schedules to stick to and can be turned away from ndc's if im late with chilled goods...
So i have to drive alittle slower to stay in the "lorry lane" then i have to allow all the people like the people on thos thread to cram in at the last minute then i have to slow right down everytime a stupid dick is reading a map etc etc etc
NO SORRY, i have a job to do and i have times to stick to, organise your self so you aint late as i do the same.....

Which is fair comment, im in the forwarding industry so i know about deadlines !!
I dont think that lorries cant overtake, no way, its just sometimes they are not very courteous, they just pull out as they have their indicators on, some people in cars are worse though with regards cutting in front of lorries, idiots the lot of em !
