Default mondeo boot release problem help please!!!!!!

my mate has 2001 mondeo which has a boot release problem. the button on the key fob, boot button and on the dash button will not unlock the boot. how ever, if you use the key in the lock it will unlock. ford say £128 will fix it by replacing the whole lock assembly. any ideas how this can be fixed without spending this money.

thanks guys.

mat.

Almost defintitely just the solenoid on the lock mechanism, have a looky with test light to see if it has gone duff, then off to breakers yard, couple of quid, £5 at most.

seconded

find otu where the solinoid feed is and, using a test light, make sure there is a power feed going to it
you never know, it may have just popped a fuse
