The thing with passionford is if your don't go with the masses then you are considered a twat. However there will be others thinking the same but they won't post.
Everytime an RS200 is mentioned on here the masses get their cocks and beat one out over them. They are overated antiques that no one really wants. I reckon most people even if they had the cash and were a ford nut would not buy one. I still don't think they change hands for £70K at all (or at least not very often). £50K maybe.....
That is my opinion and I sure if some victim has actually paid that then they will come on to this thread and say so instead of these peeps that know of one that did etc etc.
Yes Thanks
And yes they are worth every penny
Would you buy one, if so what would YOU pay for it ?
Out of interest, forgotting the alleged values of the cars invloved. Would you swap you Escort for a non Evo RS200 ? (I don't think you would as your escort is a better car!)

Dannnnnnnnnnn just because no-one has come to you on this webiste and spoon fed you information on how much they paid doesnt mean it doesnt happen
This website doesnt encompass the whole Ford world or anything like it..despite being a cracking website
Once again i'll point out that what you 'reckon' means fuck all and has little influence on what actually happens!

Personally I think anyone that pays over £50K (even that in my eyes is way too much money) for a non EVO rs200 is a victim.
I also don't feel there is many people who would actually buy one even if they had the money.
You see I have an opinion but most people on PF give it large without actually expressing their own.

They were destined to be chassis 201 > 220 and FORD had around 40 2.1L BDT "E" motors ready but as Group B was stopped, FORD decided not to produce an extra 20 cars but to use some of the original remaining 1.8 cars.
They took 20 cars from the warehouse of remaining vehicles:-
Chassis 012, 070, 071, 081, 083, 084, 086, 087, 096, 097, 098, 099, 101, 105, 106, 145, 146, 153, 168, 174
... and set them to be EVO'd. (Chassis 12 was already the EVO prototype)
Having read old RS200 Owners Club newsletters, a further four cars were built from new as Evolutions after the 20:-
Chassis Numbered 020, 089, 161 and 182.
...... it is probably best to refer to them as "Factory 2.1 EVO versions" - In some way even rarer I suppose !
They set aside chassis numbers 201 > 220 to be the evolution cars.
The relationship was planned to be:-
201=012 202=146 203=174 204=087 205=097 206=098 207=099 208=145 209=081 210=153 211=101 212=168 213=070 214=084 215=105 216=106 217=096 218=083 219=071 220=086
These vehicles were then sent out to be upgraded which included a new engine, this time a 2.1 litre. This needed a new block as the walls were too think to handle this extra sized bore. That meant new heads which meant the ports had moved which required all new associated inlet parts, the chassis had to be slightly cut to fit the longer engine and there is a cut out of the firewall between driving compartment and the engine bay which is where the distributor sits, this has a removable panel so you can access it from the inside of the car for adjustment etc
When the cars returned there was no need to allocate the intended 201 onwards range of numbers so they kept their original VIN plates although Bob Howe is sure at least one slipped out with a VIN plate in excess of the figure 200 although the newsletters suggest NONE did so

Your see them for sell for a lot more than that. The question is do they really sell for that kind of money, I personally don't think they do - if one does then I would say its a rare occasion.

thats a lot cheeper than the one i saw last year at RON HODGSON'S
sports car garage, his was 100 grand, them cars were for sale by ford
for 50 grand around 1988,ford couldn't sell them
but in rallycross they kicked the arses of allcomers,
the fella in my sig did it best,he kicked pat dorans arse and he had
a rs200 too,and he kicked Teir Schie and he had a 205 T16 E2
WATCH MY LINK AND YOU CAN SEE+HEAR A RS200 EVOLUTION

They only made 150 all up, with 24 EVO's from the factory
Its not like selling a £7k saff on here

Iirc the amount of evo rs200's was very low
i have seen SUE COLLINS race hers(evo rs200) against Paul Bailey
and the noise it makes is the best.
they are the ultimate RS imo
never seen a rs200 evo beat all the other crap group b cars?
watch it beat will gollop(6r4 bi turbo) into the lead.
the guy's a legend and so is the car

i don't think what it looks like matters,it was built to rally, it did and
as soon as it started winning it was banned.
martin schanche adapted one for european ra11ycross and it
became a winner
they look ok, but in competition they did the bizzo
they also caught fire real good, were very hot inside and as a
road car were capable of conking out regularly

Out of interest why do you start your post buy calling me a "peenarse". I would have thought you would be the last person on here to follow the masses. Why not just give your opinion etc without it.......
I think MK2 Escort are proper - more respect for them than an RS200. I would happily own one, perhaps I will one day.
LOL @ Benchmarking group b legend - fook off - your joking - why don't you tells why its a "benchmarking group b legend" ?
Little too young - think I am acutally older than you Matt.
I agree "anything is worth what somebody is willing to pay" and in this case I don't feel many will pay £70K for it.

Come on who on their right mind is going to pay £70K for that. If it an EVO then it may get some interest but even then i doubt it.

2 RS200's(evo s) came up for sale recentley, both 100k plus, one sold in 2 days, the other took a few days longer to shift . Some people in here just don't understand the value of these cars and try and compare them with the current mass produced jap crap rally derived type style cars that are available at any Autotrader website and have the residual value of a Proton! The one that is for sale in this link will sell for sure and won't lose the new owner money!....but some people in heRe just won't be convinced!
If i had the space and the money to buy one knowing that it wasn't an everyday car and would only be used occasionally, then i'd happily part with my cash.......i was seriously tempted at one last year that was going for around the 50k mark......but for me having 50k invested in a car when it could be used on properties was too mnuch 4 me......if i was richer,it wouldnt have been an issue.........maybe one day.....

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Dann at 70k its an investment at least for someone, maybe not the most profitable but still a sure bet.
As for not being part of the 'in crowd' its all about how much you want to put in to get back out
I personally dont think there is such a thing on here. I dont post that often but people are always helpful if ive asked something and have met many good folk from here too.
And expect to get ribbed, thats life.

Hi Peeps
I have been to see the Rs200 in question more out of interest and sod all else to do on a rainy sunday.
This car is a very good example of a 200+
The interior has been very well trimmed in grey leather inc the dash and looks quite stunning..
Unfortunately as with many 200+ cars it is not entirely legit.
Panels dont necessarily line up odds and sods missing and the odd non original RS200 part.
But having said that it is still a very nice car.
£70K????
No wayyyyyy. More like £30K - £40K
For a totally original Rs200 with some good history I would defo pay anything from around £50K - £70K
But alas......I`m skint lol
Everyone has theire preferences for choosing theire favourite car to own
and good luck to anyone who gets to live the dream.
There will always be faults and reasons why people dislike and prefer different cars ...but hey....who gives a flyin fook.
Work hard, play hard...enjoy
