theres not a metre of stainless there and its BENT on a pipe bender and they charge that

or if its tig welded the its gonna cost MAX 40 quid to get done

3in pipe is pretty dear compared to the 2in mild on a std car?

Also, they are low volume, so are going to be dearer.

mate,,,, what ever people charge we need to look at WHAT OTHERS SELL THEM FOR !!!

i work for one of the BIGGEST exhaust distributers in the country and so i get to know what others pay for them

150 quid is alot,,,, if a company is selling them them and there SERIOUS then i can get them made in batches for a decent amout of cash

they could be sold at 80 quid for a profit,,, though i doubt these companys belive it working for a 35% margin i guess

rick would yopu like me to supply you with 4ins dimeter pipes of mild steel in 2 meter lenths,,, less than 30 quid too mate

stainless ok thats more cash i agree,,, but if you buy it right its not a issue

my boss started hes business in his dads shed back in the 70's and selling them at hes prices hes built up a business of over 16 branches and STILL growing and hes never turned up for work for the last 5 years

imagine if he had people who was willing to pay that for them

ok things are worth what someone is willing to pay,,,, but i NOW know what things cost to make,,,, mlr head gaskets less than 10quid

cossie headgaskets LESS THAN 5 QUID !!!

the cossie headgasket costs the same to make as a vauxhall cavalier,,, they are made at 500 orders at a time and one of em sells for 13 quid the other at 75 quid

the rover K series head gasket cost in total over 3 million to redesign over time to solve the problem with them,,, due to that its a very expensive gasket and sold for 90 quid with the extra shim

how much is wrc one,,, made of the same material

sorry but we are being ripped of people

thats why the vaux boys do better than us at totb,, the price of parts is alot less !!!

Ginge, i'm with u all the way - but it's a supply and demmand thing isn't it - u pay for one off's, and the time it takes someone to develop it.

One of the reasons i have the s2 though, is it's so cheap to run. Remember the other day, u said that 3 years is the avetage life of a bearing? I thought - bollocks, mine have lasted me double that!

Anyway, this morning my back one suddenly started to drone Went to Unipart, got a new bearing kit for £6.19. Installed in 20 mins - job done, cheap motoring .

abs all you need to do is make a 90 degree bend about 2.5 ins on the inside of the bend from the turbo housing and then follow in straight down like the original erst exhaust goes and its made,,,,, its that simple mate that ANYONE can make one,,, you DONT need a jig made for it,,, that just makes em get tacked together in 10mins and then tig weld um up and 20 mins later you have 170 quid,,,, thats 340 quid per hour

Ginge !
its a custom pipe work so its going to cost no matter what. it all depends if he is using a cosworth back ex housing and wants to reduce down to his 2"/half ex .and another thing is it looks alot better if its made all one pieac and if he is happy with crapy hydrolic bends or proper madril bends that dont reduce as it sweps round on its bend makes a diffrence so if you add it all up the welding wire and the gas and the bends and time £150 is not alot of money at all my price has just gone up

i do understand what you say to a point... but i KNOW i can get them made cheeper,,,, you charge more ok

but theres actual companys like walker, bm,euro flow and then if you feel rich bosal who make them fo a living and they can also do them for one offs cheeper as thats what they do all day long

they dont do stainless in bosal book
3 inch 316 stainless bends are around £30 each to buy 4 inch are £40
flange fitting laser cut are around £60
band clamp kits for gt turbos are £120 complete on there own
so £120 for a down pipe is cheap

it cost me over £600 to make my exhaust in parts alown not including my labour which was around 30 hrs

Thats the shitty downpipe I have on mine, and its cracked for the 2nd time, I do have a 90 degree mandrel bend that is going to be fabricated onto the flange etc for me, but a one off complete piece would be better

This is the pipe I have got to be "attached"

stu you thought aboout fitting a mount to the front part of the exhaust like the xr3i's have and ease the presure

and getting a better welder too might help as he cant be getting it to the right temp i would guess

The first time it was done (on pic) was basically the previous owner, and the amount of bodges we found its surprising he didnt use sellotape..

the 2nd time really was just a "quick fix" to get me to APT RR day

More thought will be going into it this time, with the "support" you talk about, but if you can get costs down, I think you have some money to be made with the one off moulded piece!

Certainly food for thought!

last effort by prev owner, not gonna open a can of worms so well end that there..

Got the new bit for £25 of the bay from some metal dude, looks really good workmanship tbh, although getting the angle right might be tricky..

heres what happened 1st time

It ripped when I removed it from the car, I was giving it some love
