If you just want something to use whilst out running, then I suggest you get a cheapy generic flash based player, rather than something more expensive, and more involved, than an ipod or Creative player...
Something like this will suit fine;

I suggest this for a couple reasons. Mainly - THEY ARE EASY TO USE!
The difference with something like this and an iPod/Creative/Sony etc is that with the generic flash based players all you have to do is plug tem into a PC's USB port and drag and paste music files to put music onto it, or to remove music from it.
With an iPod/Creative/Sony etc you need to use their software to transfer music, and with an ipod you HAVE to use iTunes to make it work - and if you are like me, you'll hate it. (I dislike iTunes, and don't like the fact that Apple basically force me to use it if I want to use an iPod)
The flash players are quick easy and simple to use. Charge it using your PC's usb port, or with a supplied charger, etc...
