Default What is your take on oil guys?

..i am just doin the head gasket on this new saff of mine..which will probably turn out to be a cracked block ...but in the event of a fluke and it all goes well....whats your take on cheaper oil,now its run on mobil 1 15 50...but fuck paying that kinda money..the expensive oil is reserved for my duke and nsr..lol..........so i am gonna use semi synthetic drivemaster from one of our suppliers...problem?...I change oil on the YB every 2k....so basically every 5 years no point in using an oil that will last 15k surely?

I ran my Dolomite engine on magnatec
540 atw
I changed it everytime it went black
We stripped the engine down as Karl had done another cyl head and the Pistons and bearings were mint
I now run it on fully synth as it gets hotter with the abuse on track
But if i was just running on the road all the time i would use magnatec...

I only use this now, and my engine after 35k, still looked MINT inside the bottom end when it was stripped down .

It may appear expensive, but it is for FIVE litres as opposed to the usual four you get with the Castrol and Mobil.

Also FYI regarding the Castrol RS 10w60, I stopped using this as it is not a true fully synthetic oil, and also due to it's molecular structure, it actually "unwinds" when it gets hot. This obviously means that it EXPANDS when hot, so if you fill it up to the top level and then go out on track, it will expand to the point of going above the full level . Cossies don't like this, so all the excess will be blown out of the breather and then when it settles and cools down, it will appear that you have used shit loads, when in fact most of it was blown out the breather . So basically do NOT fill the oil up with Castrol RS beyond the three-quarter mark if you're going to use it on track .

Yep!! had the oils chemically checked, Castrol rs for instance was out of Spec after one 200mph run.
Silcolene Pro 10-50 proved that an oil was capable of taking that abuse & still be in Spec. Pro 5-40 is best when Nitrous is used as it allowed Petrol being forced past the rings to burn off more easily, the 10-50 having a tad too much Petrol present when analized (not a problem on the road).

Problem is Phil you cant see the damage that occurs. The Castrol RS i had analised was not only out of Spec but had metal particals in it ( wear) I could not see them but the engine was being damaged by what I & most other Cossie owners swore was the best oil. The Sikcolene had a big fat zero in the metal deposits column, I was shocked & it changed Mark from recommending Castrol to Silkolene.

Yo phil

the amount of money you make and your penny pinching over a few quid on oil , my god , you need help

I use silkolene in the cossie and the rs2000

one good thing you get 5litres instead of 4 so it works out a bit cheaper

it's proper oil and does exactly what it says on the tin it's ester based fully synthetic oil

just hurry up and send my map sensor
