Might have to grab a set of those. Thats the bad thing about home made - you can't adjust the volume, and soon gives you a headache.

you could always build a bandpass filter on your det cans

you can work a rough frequance of det,, but im fucked if i can rememebr the formula (somethink like f=2pi D)

the sealey one wont be much better than the spy thingy,, they amp ALL sounds

a bandpass filter is very simple to make, and could fit inline with the mic or headphones and (should) get rid of alot of the background gearbox noise

where cylinder radius is measured in metres

eg For an 86mm bore, 900/0.043*3.14 = 6666 Hz

i brought a set off ebay. (the link i put up earlier)

But over 3 weeks now, and

I still haven't recieved my sealey det cans.

The bloke is so useless. Never answers his phones.

i've asked for a refund if i dont get it by Tuesday.

Also found this. looks the same as the sealey, but Ł22 cheaper.

Electronic det cans

Just my opinion but....

Someone I know (a tuner ) had a set and swore blind by them.
I was at a dyno session in the cell with the engine when I could hear det
and told him it was detting.
He said, no mate you are wrong, I cant hear anything on my det cans.

Some of these new det cans have high pass filters so you only hear
the high frequency noises.

It turns out, the batterys were flat and they were not working - obviously.
The unit had a led on which was lit too !!!!!

Luckily, it was low load and rpm so no melt downs.

Mechanical best IMO

We wont talk about the time I witnessed (with others) a well known tuner
map a 580+bhp engine without any kind of det monitoring.

As above still.

Tried emails, phone numbers, and thro ebay. But no response at all.

But now opened a dispute with seller thro Ebay.

And just gave him Neg Feedback, which i didn't want to do, but he's pushed me too far.
