Each to their own I guess

ring engine advantages, i'm sure he will agree with you as that was where it was taken, and paul hills exact words were that is the best engine I have ever seen on greens It did make 378.9 but had to be backed off slightly as it was on the verge of detting but hey, 370BHP from a homebuild on a budget isn't bad I don't think

Phil, as much as it pains me...lol...i do agree with what you do. If my engine blows i will be the one rebuilding it. Only thing ill go to a tuner for is diagnostic fault finding and setting up/mapping. I dont see the pleasure in not doing it yourself!

Well thats quite cool. Mines usually trial and error...which can be expensive. Usually find the cure but my latest one has arse fucked me big style

When i say id use a tuner for diagnostic...thats what i mean..i WOULD use one,,,i havent yet though lol! I will be going Stus tho for a setup etc

Phil

Autronic can drive 8 injectors on 4 outputs and have perfect emissions ,Stu would be the best man to try on weber but I bet when you add cost/time you should have got another Ecu.

Phil,

Thanks for returning the ECU promptly, even nicer to see that you havent
even opened up the software/instructions pack.
Could it be that you were not serious about using it in the first place ?

You quoted the retail price of the S8 further up this thread.
As a trader, this price would have been discounted for you...
I would not normally do this for an unofficial SECS trader but as it was
an excercise in public relations i would have done so for you.
I think the retail price is a pretty good value anyway.

As for MAPS, If you had gave me an idea of the final engine spec,
I could have put a base map together to get you going.
After all, the idea of the S8 is to be plug and play in 99% of applications.

Hope this makes you regret your Level 8 decision a little bit more but as you
have said before and I agree it is up to you at the end of the day.

Simon...i DID read the instructions, the envelope was one you could open and close ......as proof not all the pages were stapled together.

I find that rather a childish attempt at a dig TBH

If i thought you could do me a base chip that would be safe for my engine without the need for a mapping session..ie i just can fiddle myself without too major problems i would have tried it....infact if you CAN do that and is compatible with the pectel (collins moniter) you can re send it and i will try it....seeing as you so want me to use it and everyone is calling me a tosser...Your call...i explained WHY i didnt want it...its up to you to remedy those fears.

Steve,
3rd .

Wil,
That engine would NEVER make 370bhp on an engine dyno . If you knew how much boost I had to run to get a TRUE 385bhp on greens (and that was in the days of proper fuel ), then you would realise how far out those rollers must be .

Phil,

Sorry, I retract the 'not being serious' remark.

As for my S8 ecu being able to work with the pectel (cough cough, collins) monitor,
I could not bring my self to limit the data available to the said monitor by using what is
effectivly a device that is 10 years out of date even if it is being remanufactured new.

I will think about re-making the offer..

Thought so.

Has anyone been able to give a clear reason why, and if this really is the reason for some (?) of the EA figures seeming high?

Edit to say I don't want to start a fight, and I am sure that the car is still plenty quick on the road 370 hp or not.

Rolling roads no matter who's it is, will never be accurate.
There are far too many un measured assumptions used in calculating BHP.
E.G. powertrain loss/tyre grip/clutch slip/ambient temperature...etc.

The ONLY accurate way is on a proper certified engine dyno.

i know what ima means, it's be handy if you could have a display showing what the ECU does...

i wonder if SECS provides a feature like this

oh n wait, they provide 4 different solutions for this

phil, heres a little table to help you realise where the cost goes... lol

please fill in the blank for how much the L8 chip costs and how much the monitor costs and then you can work out your totals

ps you realise that the S8 has built in datalogging and monitor displays to any PC based system (like a little tiny laptop like lewises)
