Is it just because the item jumped from £31 to £80 that made you think it was dodgy? This is fairly normal. I have both bought and sold items that leapt up in the last few hours. That doesn't necessarily mean that someone is not playing fair.

I have sold a fair bit on Ebay and find that the item generally sells for a better price when I start it at 99p and with no reserve on it. It's my risk. It might not make its money, but it almost always does.

If I put a Reserve and/or a Buy-Now price on it, the set-up fee's are higher.

This doesn't mean that there is any funny business though. I know that Ebay is toss lately, for many reasons, but I don't think you have necessarily been the victim of any of that in this case.

Make sense??

its ebay afterall mate

i dont bother with auctions that the bidding is private

you could get an electric aerial almost exact from a stereo place for about £30

the fuel pump cradle is quite a good bargain at £50 tbh

ive seen these go for a lot more and there the 14 yrs old ones

also its all down to how much people are willing to pay

last few items i sold were a set of rear xr4x4 calipers, bear in mind i usually scrap these as they arnt worth sod all they went for £92

and a propshaft doughnut i usally sell at 40-50 when i have a few spare sold for £90

but as i said if someone wants it bad they will pay the price

i waited ages to buy bits of dash for the mondeo and when they were going for upwards of £50 it was just too much
i bought a complete dash centre with switches and stuff the other day for a mere £19 all in so i'm well chuffed i waited
i also got my 6 disc changer for a lot less than i've seen them going for as there seem to be a glut of them on ebay at the moment

I bidded up to £20 on a Escort 1.6 rad/fan with a starting price of £0.99. I asked the bloke a question about the item and just after he replied the item bidded up to £11.00.

I checked the feedback on the new bidder as he had 1 feedback left. Funnily enough the person who left the feedback was the same person selling the rad! Thought this was a bit suss, so checked all the feedback on the seller and 9/10 auctions the new bidder had bidded on everything! That included a Nova bonnet, Escort parts and an Audi bit or something????? Obviously this is "Shell Bidding" or whatever its called and duely got reported to EBAY!

EBAY aint worth a wank now tbh for buying, but good for selling imo

This isn't within the last few hours though, there's 2 days & 4 hours left.

It certainly would make me think it's being bumped up.

Ebay is good for when you dont know what something is worth, or your not fussed about it. i normally list at 99p start no res, then get 10s of Qs asking for a buy it now, ffs So just make up a very high price, if they are desperate they will pay
