When you replace a radiator, you are normally replacing it because it is knackered. So if you fit an alloy one instead of a the standard knackered one, you are bound to see improvements.
Same as if you replace a standard knackered one with a standard new one you will still see improvements.
I wonder how much better new standard ones are compared to new alloy ones, have any magazines done tests like they do with coolers/ACT's etc?
Incidentally i just replaced an 8 year old Pace alloy rad with a new Radtec one, and noticed good improvements.
Pace and Radtec are very similar build quality IMO, both good

The Radtech 60mm is Ł320
Pro-Alloy 50mm is Ł350
Pro-Alloy 65mm is Ł400 (but this is 140mm wider than standard and has additional scoops to force air into cooler and not allow it to bypass around the outside, so has additional features not found on other intercoolers, so not a like for like comparison).

its all down to fasion imo and what make is seen to be more populaand blingy. End of the day is it really going to make that much difference on your average ford sierra that has more major issues to be addressed than which make of intercooler should go on it

let me stick my nose in here , ah have been making the 60+mm ones for the last few yrs, radtec matched there design a yr ago... the ah has been proved for yrs and now due to copycats and matching they are improving there design...
the reason radtec and ah are similar priced is basically there the same core, now mike my cooler is the same size as yours by ah and a guarentee works as good if not better, yet pro charge ŁŁŁ more for the pleasure....
dan is totally correct in saying the new design is being done, the cores are in its just having the time to knock the new design up and test them out, i know the new theory behind it all as i am very close with alex and lars @ah, my car along with 1 or 2 others will be the first to test the new coolers out along with the new rads they will be producing to go with the coolers both are being updated to allow for further progress in the market...
IMO for the price you pay radtec or ah are the best to go for atm i personally feel the pro alloy is overpriced and as many people have found they dont fit correct and how they force the air in i'd like to know, as to me it just looks like the dams sit there they dont 'force air in' and before you say they fit escorts mike paul R's didnt fit he sent his back!!! or trimmed it....
the new ah ones will when made will be a similer price to the pro alloy ones price now but the design will be new/better hence the extra, but for now IMO by a radtec/ah save some $$$

2. The lads at Pro-alloy forgot to measure the required length of the deflector plates after doing mine, hence why the subsequent two after that didn't fit .
3. As to how they work, just goes to show you should stick to what you know best (battering fish ), air will ALWAYS take the path of least resistance, so a lot of the flow is lost as the air will go AROUND the intercooler / radiator rather than through it. The deflector plates stop this from happening, so the path of least resistance is through the intercooler / radiator .
Also, please note I have in NO way slagged off AH OR Radtec and these are intercoolers I would be happy to fit on my own car / sell. I just prefer the quality of the Pro-Alloy ones and also they are reasonably local to me for custom parts and when I have funny ideas about what I want, they will build them (my twin pass "head" cooler as an example ).

Pro Alloy :
Not being a design engineer, I looked at them all before I decided on Pro Alloy, and the thing that clinched it for me was the quality of the items, the welding, and for me what turned out to be a perfect fit.
