reality side of things

hes a close mate of mine,, he should get a cossie YES,, but not now when he aint ready for it yet

not to mention what happens if he DOES get nicked for speeding

130 in a cossie is just a squirt of the pedal,, the clock goes up in 10's to 130 then in 5's to 145 then it struggles

my bmw gets to 110 quick time then takes a while to get to 135

think of that side of things

I agree, everyone told me to buy a subaru, wasn't what i wanted, i always wanted a cosworth. I actually found the saph brouchure my da got me as a kid. I don't use mine everyday, i wouldn't use any 20 year old car everyday, mine is std and hasn't missed a beat and i'd definetely regret not buying one, take your time thought, theres a lot of shite out there!

Incoreect you're talking about a piece of shit 20 year old crap sierra, which roughly disguises its self as a performance car.

a 1.1 nova on the other hand is a piece of shit 20 year old car. full stop. Hence it will go on forever as a daily driver.

My first car I paid £5500 for it.

My second cossie I paid £8000 for.

Its quite clear I have PROPER money to spend on a proper car.

The second car had

Fully rebuilt engine
New loom, engine, fuel and ECU
New injectors
New Turbo
NEW AP's
NEw Wheels
BIG WING SUMP
WINDAGE TRAY
Good G'box
Strong Diff
New Exhaust
FULLY Live mapped.
ETC ETC ETC
Also the car was well known- I personally knew the last 3 owners and was recommended the car by a top tuner and close personel friend.

Everything about the car was new or rebuilt..... and it lasted about 3 months before something went wrong.

So in summary- at the time- I purchased the best cossie available to me, since then the only car which has been better was BUDWEIS ( Jim Greens old car).

It lasted about 3 months before it needed some SERIOUS money spent on it.

NO THANKS

Hence John now owns it and got a bargain.....

OK OK

If I was going to have a cossie everyday- this is what I would do.

Latest possible year spec.

Lowest possible mileage.

Send it straight to a reputable tuner for all service items to be replaced, including suspension bushes and shocks/springs, new headgasket.

Gunship map on greys.

The end.

Rough cost for all this 10k.

no i just want him to realise that the spec of the car aint what makes a cossie unreliable

a greys t34 cossie is no less relible than a stage 1 cossie,, just its actually fun to drive

a fucked shagged detuned stage one thats been a stage 3 car then had the good parts sold on and changed BACK to stage 1 to sell on is JUST as unreliable,, but its gonna cost more money to make fun ontop

i dont regret buying my cossie as such,,, but they aint worth what they cost to run imo

not to mention the stress they cause which aint healthy and thats the reason why i wont get one,, i can afford to buy another one tommorow,,, i wouldnt cause the stress when they go wrong and the worry when you just park the car up

hell i got a mate of mine to drive it to his house when i went to a funeral cause i was worried leaving it somewhere that someone i knew wasnt close to it

wanna grow old before your time,,, BUY A COSSIE

The first car I got I looked at 11 cars like this before I got a std rebuilt one.

I was and still would be worried about leaving it somewhere.

OLD- The stress from cossie ownership and the costs envolved are imense.

seriously if i got another cossie,, may happen if the right car comes up before i buy another flat i guess you never know

i would fit a boost controler,,, cause i got one

fit seimens injectors cause i can order em from work

fit vernier pullys and time it up to SECRET timing

spike 32psi and hold 29psi to the limiter

if its gonna go i wanna have fun rather than treat it like treating a girl like a princess to find out she goes and cheats on me anyway

well to be fair the only time my cossie broke down was when i parked her up for 2 months cause i was using her everyday and i was worried she would break down

that morning on the way to work the bitch developed a fault so i parked her back up, changed a load of parts and then took the bitch to peices so start her all over again brand new

and then when she was almost finished she left me for some else who pimped her out in all different places

you would be stupid to do 2 x 10 minute journeys a day in a cossie imo. it would use a lot of fuel, require frequent oil and spark plug changes as it wouldn't have a chance to get properly warmed up.

by all means have one, but use it properly - have a small engined, small car for the commute

why the fuck are you on a ford forum if all you want to do is warn people of buying them? why the people still bother to buy them - because they want to maybe?!

if you want one mate get one! Cossie isnt an m3 an m3 aint a cossie.

T34, greens spec is a very nice everyday level of power.

If I was going to buy one, I'd probably check and replace straight away if necessary:

Boost Hoses
ALL water hoses
Main engine loom

over and above the normal checks etc...

I'm not sure it's the worst daily driver in the world. I had mine at Uni, and drove that pretty much everyday, but then did end up buying a 205GTi as a runaround so I didn't HAVE to take the cossie on the short journey to campus.

Ginge you make some good points altho you do go on a bit...BUT....you are fucking mental. How the hell you can say dont buy a cossie as they're expensive to run, and then in the same breath suggest an old M5......because fuel, parts and servicing on those are as cheap as chips arent they? Not.

Ginge if someone said to you a few years back do not get a cossie etc... would you say 'oh yeah Si, your totally right i wont bother. All this hype over cosworths for the last 20 odd years must be rubbish. Ill forget my childhood dreams of owning one and Ill buy a house and a BMW instead'

If your right then so be it but right now you sound like my dad. Somethings you have to learn for yourself!

Iam 23 and i have dreamed of owning a cossie for literally 15 years. I appreciate what your saying and saw you go through a lot with your cossie, and especially after recent events i can see what you would say this. BUT - i want a cossie, i will get a cossie.
Sound exactly like me mate....
Only diference being that when I had a slight incident in my silver Xr it pretty much killed a LOT of enthusiasm that I had for fiestas... - I had over 50% of the bits I needed for the ZT build, but decided against it - and look what i've got now...
Sensible hat was saying to me to go and buy an Evo 6. The girlfriend (of all people) said that I shouldn't even consider it given that I'd ALWAYS wanted an escos. Yes, the Evo is a better car... but if i'd have got one I would have always wanted an Escos.

Mine is only stage 1 and only feels slightly quicker than my fes was once off the mark... - its almost too refined compared with a stripped out XR2, but I would NEVER go back.

If you want one mate, and can afford to maintain it, then go for it... As Ginge says, they are old, and you will have problems, but as long as you don't bury your head in the sand and look after it, you'll love it!

Ginge - just a thought but you were saying don't get a cossie because unless it's got a T34 etc then you'll be bored (which is the spec he said he was after) but you tell him to get a BMW, which you openly say is slower, how is that gonna be less boring?

si

i say just do it fuck what everyone else says

my cossie is an everyday motor, currently running gunship, but i have just blown the turbo on it so going for greys, RS500 cooler n T34.63

hoping for about 370bhp

mine is only a cheap example and yes you do get a few probs with them but touchwood so far i aint had any major problems and it certainly aint put me of having it as an everyday car

i think its quality having a cossie as an everyday motor, im only 25 on 20k a year and own my own house and i manage just fine

Full set of tyres = £1K iirc

you aint seen how he drives

how many tyres do you think a 23 year old is gonna go through in a rwd cossie ?

and that was including fitting ect

jsut ask how many tyres his xr2 has gone though since hes owned it

80 quid a pop gives him just under 2 months for when hes ragging the arse of of it

when he first for his fiesta he used to make it spin up the wheels to tell everyone how powerfull it was and shake the steering wheel to pretend it torque steered

and PLEASE tell me where you can get a FULL gasket set from for 250 quid that aint a FIA one ?

payne hall ones aint cheep either remember

he said hes mate got hes engine REBUILT for 600 quid,,, he probly belives it too

i know that hes always complaining hes skint and hes always ducking me for the 100 quid he owes me as hes cars always buying something for his fiesta and so he cant afford to pay for it and i mean things like car tax ect

he cant afford a cossie yet,,,, he needs to decide if he can afford a 5k a year toy or enjoy life

i KNOW he cant afford it and i also know hes not even looking at 6k cossies either

hes impulse buying and hes not thinking of what hes doing and thinks that if eh gets a stage 1 cossie its gonna be jsut as reliable as fiat panda and will be rapid cause cossies are rapid

he dont understand that a cossie WONT suit is max 100mph speed drving style

fuck me he does 70 on the motorway cause hes worried about geting points,,,, and NO that aint a joke

im not telling you about his finances,,, im tell you that he spunks hes money on cars

his xrt is a good value for money car imo, cost him fuck all for all hes got tbh but hes not a person who stays home on the internet

hes in the pub a few times a week, he goes on piss ups all over the country and he likes to enjoy life

he can get away with it on his xrt as hes MODDING it,, he fitting things he dont need to and so its not a `actual bill

but if he gets a cossie hes insurance is DOUBLED,,, hes petrol is DOUBLED

the price of parts is DOUBLED and also trippled too with the current range of cossie tax

hes gonna find the car will be off the road UNLESS he makes a BIG mistake and gets a loan for it,,,, now hes being silly about the car,,,, but he aint a cunt and i KNOW he wont get a loan to buy a car as ive warned him and hes also warned me when i was offered a PRODRIVE 350 bhp scoobie for 3500with RL7's

hes what i class as a close mate,,, he aint a person who i know and i aiont a person who he knows

when i couldnt afford to pay for a car i bought off him he let me pay it off over 6 months

we aint internet mates

money aint a issue for him,,, but it COULD be a issue if hes spending money on a car JUST to get it to work and back for him

takes the fun out of cars hence i dont have a performace car

oh and the guy who mentioned about the M5,,, there alot more fucking reliable than a cossie thats for sure

hell my bmw stands me in about 400 quid in parts and that included the M3 bumper/kit/ water pump/full service and fluids, brake pads/stering rack/ al new bushes/rear prop bearing/ 2 lower arms and 17ins bbs split rims

lets price up cossie parts for that shall we

Ginge - In a nice as possible way and as i asked you yesterday on PM please dont mention my fianances or what i spend, do or say about my money.
Notice you didnt seem to mention ive spent over £5k on this engine in the last 6 months on omex, t34, low comps, live mapping, quaife diff, paddle clutch etc... did you?

Its not like i am not used to spending money you make it sound like i am.

Is £5k every 6 months enough to MAINTAIN a cossie as you so rightly put it? Do you think i might get away with it or should i get a fucking loan out to fill up the tank
You also neglect to mention i work in the automotive business. Tyres etc... arent much of a problem unless iam importing solid gold ones which i assume you must be talking about at those prices

Then theres the other 3 cars i own i could always sell if times got hard enough when i couldnt afford an oil filter

Fuck me, seriously thanks for killing this thread with unrelated drivel which is of little use to me since everytime i ring you or PM you i get told all of this. The same way i know you will when i see you next.

Think iam gonna buy a cossie to spite you now, a right £2k dog with a fooked engine that needs an oil change and a set of tyres and ask you whether you thought i done well
