Default Transmission problem.....HELP.......Update...PROBLEM FOUND

Right, quick query.

On the way home from cumbria on sunday my car (4x4 saph cos) developed a nasty vibration/rumble.

Seems to be transmission related, as the gearstick shakes quite badly side to side.
But the vibrations are bad enough to feel right through the seats/peddles!!

Problem is at its worst when accelerating, even smoothly and not decking the throttle (cars only stg1),

Had it on a ramp for a quick look at APs on the way home, no worrying play in either props or drive shafts, no leaks from diffs or gearbox, nothing seems to be loose.......

got us stumped.......

Please someone......put me out my misery and give me a clue!!!!

We gave all the shafts a good pull/shake and none seemed to have any obvious movement out of the ordinary.....

Could that make the whole car shake like a cunt?

Pardon the language but i'm kinda pissed off with it at the moment!!

my saff 4x4 did this- changed prop shaft, driveshafts, cvs etc was a fooking engine mount snaped! Only found it when I took the engine out when it melted No.3

The vibrations were mental....gearstick felt like a machine gun, and the seat was like it was going to explode!!!

I mentioned engine mounts....but it kinda got gradually worse on the journey home, i would of expected engine mounts to just let go in one big bang sort o thing!!??

Worth checkin though...

What about the gearbox mounts?
Could these cause it if they're knackered?

it started off as a little vibration, it then got so bad i couldnt do more than 30mph. Put it on ramp, open bonnet and jack the engine up and have a look at the mounts, mine was the left hand side (inlet side) and the engine came up 3-4inches! bet its that! esp as ur accelerating the engines twisting/lifting!

check the propshaft dougnut

these have atendancy to split

my vibration was around 120 though accelerated through it and it snapped my transfer case off

i changed the gearbox mount and doughnut and never had a problem

but id be more than 80% sure the doughnut is split in a couple of places

We had a look when it was on the ramp and it looks pretty fresh, not tired or perished or anything like that.
And couldn't see any obvious splits....

Will have a more thorough check, hopefully tomorrow night!!

Changed 3 drivers side shafts on my old 4x4 saph before I checked engine mounts

Put a trolley jack under sump and jacked it up slowly and both mounts were totally fooked
