what i am trying to say is that the mk4 is just a facelifted mk3 isn't it? in the same way that the mk5b is a facelifted mk5?

I would agree with that. Mk5's and 5b are all the same to me though, its a bit like saying a 90 spec turbo is a Mk4b isnt it?
I never thought there was a mk7.

ford now facelift cars before releasing actual new cars,,, its cheeper and gets the tarts who what the newest version to spend cash quicker

mk3/4 not 100% if shells are identicle or not, but they have diff front wings, bonnets, grills, headlights, rear lights, mirrors, bumpers etc

mk5/5b have diff bonnets, rear lights, boot lids, rear wings

mk6 has same rear end as 5b, diff doors, mirrors, bonnet, grill, headlights, bumpers, floorpan, dash, interior trim, front wings

There are big differences between Pre May'83 Mk3's and the later Mk3, much bigger changes than just a bumper and headlight upgrade, but they are all just known as Mk3!

yeah early mk3 had xr2 style lower arms and roll bar for a start,,, not to mention different shocks and different angle the shocks poke out

Very true, some had square lights while others had round

So the last was a mk8? or if you include the facelift mk3 it's a mk9

I only thought the lower spec MK2s had the square lights and the higher spec had round?Also,the RS2000 had the twin lights like that picture.
